Saw Adam Ant and The English Beat in Phoenix. Great show, both great bands.

The thing about seeing these older acts is they almost always end up with really great musicians backing them.

Half the people in Adam's band looked the part, and half of them looked like they just came in from the Keith Urban gig, but they did rock and apparently it's been mostly the same band for a while.

Before Adam Ant came out and they were setting up the gear I caught myself thinking "Wow, they're really spending a lot of time checking the toms" and then remembered what show I was at.

It was wild watching it and realizing yeah, they're playing toms 90 something percent of the time. And not just the two drummers, at one point there's like 5 people playing toms.

So you are playing live with Adam Ant, meaning you have the perfect opportunity to dress like Adam Ant, or at least Marco, and you just say "No, I'm good, I'll just wear the jeans and sleeveless tshirt".

C'mon now. There were people in the audience dressed like Adam Ant.

Dav Wakeling has apparently lived in L.A. for like 40 years and I still couldn't understand half of what he was saying.

I had a whole essay in my head on the drive home about how Adam Ant is an under appreciate pop genius, but it's almost 5 in the morning so that will have to wait.

I had no idea there were so many English Beat fans. People were into it. Again, the drummer was killer, as was the bass player, the whole band.

I never really followed them, but discovered a while back that regardless, "Save It For Later" has some kind of melancholy nostalgic magic that sounds like the 80s more than anything else.

@noondlyt

"Mirror in the Bathroom" and "Tears of a Clown" were both just smokin.

Both bands really came alive on the big rockers more than the pop hits.

Notable was drummer Jola who pounded away in an elaborate party dress, mask, and piled high wig full of jewelry, BECAUSE SHE UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT.

Seriously, if you know those songs they are a workout and she was killing it and still properly attired.
