It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The complications could potentially be problematic, but this weight loss treatment essentially would be one time, rather than Ozempic, which you’d have to take for the rest of your life. No surgery, either.

OMG!!
Are people this seriously lacking in self control that they are willing to burn the lining of their stomach or use a medication that causes irreversible intestinal motility!!

Maybe we should stop. Look at the over-processed garbage we are buying and eating and reassess our priorities!!

@Snowshadow I’m going to say this once: Stop judging the journeys of others. If you can’t, there’s the door.

@Snowshadow I think you need to learn to understand that not everyone is you.

@ernie
I think you need to understand how the pharm industry and the big food corps are manipulating people and causing irreversible damage to our health.
Take some time to read up on the big 5 international food corps and how they have caused the increase in diabetes, heart disease, stokes and overweight issues around the world and how some countries are trying to fight back.

ernie,
@ernie@writing.exchange avatar

@Snowshadow None of that makes up for the fact that the medical industry is making real strides in coming up with solutions to obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Again—you are not other people, stop applying your standards to them.

@ernie
You posted about a medial procedure relating to weight loss and I replied about how we are being manipulated by the food industry and pharm and how I think we need to step back and look at the root causes rather than use a band aid approach.
I have also struggled with my weight and associated health issues for decades

If you want only replies that fit your narrative perhaps you should say that
I am sorry we don't agree.

ernie,
@ernie@writing.exchange avatar

@Snowshadow No, you criticized the choices of other people. Then you deleted the post where you did that.

Please don’t change what you said.

@Snowshadow I don't want to take away from your own success. But just appreciate that it is yours.

There are broader issues with nutrition and public health that deserve discussion. But just understand everyone else’s battle of the bulge is different, and some may find more success with medical treatment over willpower.

Right now we’re in a period where semaglutide is too expensive because it’s not really generic, which could change someday, but this treatment strikes me as potentially being an important gap filler for people who don’t want to get their insides torn up.

The procedure sounds somewhat similar to a colonoscopy, which is a common, well-established medical procedure. (It’s going down, rather than up, though.)

@ernie My instincts tell me this falls in the “what could possibly go wrong” bucket.

ernie,
@ernie@writing.exchange avatar

@dsilverman I agree. This could be a dead end. But given that the other major medical procedures require in-depth plumbing changes I am glad it is at least being researched.
