setting my default like reaction to the paws emoji hasn't had any weird interactions. It's not like I misclicked liked a post with paws for something that it didn't exactly fit in?
@ClarificationSW I once fatfingered a post out of orbit because no confirmation prompt for deleting other user's posts. Was like my first day as an admin on @ashten's instance. I felt so bad, luckily we found out it was a moderator's post which made me feel even worse until i realized it was just a boost lol.
@pinkcreeper100@julia I prefer replying with "I like your post" at this point I stopped being able to figure out what is the correct way to show appreciation to a post apart from boosting or interacting with it in a reply. Sometimes I'll favorite a post but not because I want to send a notif, I use my favorites as bookmarks. Tumblr likes were used that way so it's really weird. I would use my tumblr likes to show me if I've reblogged a post before. I had thousands of liked posts because of that, but it helped me not be repetitive with reblogging shit over and over again thinking it was a new thing. I would still reblog shit with the heart icon but I would know i reblogged it in the past. Here? I just look at the boost icon, or if i've replied... it's all a fuck really
@not@pleroma.envs.net@novenary@julia@pinkcreeper100 If you favorite my posts on any of my sharkey accounts I do not get a notification. I can favorite posts on sharkey though I'm not sure if that sends the notification either. (I mean I'm going to try this out real quick I have accounts)
@not@pleroma.envs.net@novenary@julia@pinkcreeper100 ok so when i favorite a post on sharkey it does not send a favorite notif over. I don't think it handles that... Wonderful really. I doubt that's a fault of sharkey but probably upstream misskey. I hate it though.
@not@pleroma.envs.net@novenary@julia@pinkcreeper100 I don't know. Akkoma seems to show the heart reacts as a favorite count. Although akkoma also doesn't accept my default like reaction emoji :dbl_paw: as a favorite.

I hate it I hate it this is what I mean when I say the fediverse feels like it's held together with used chewing gum and Popsicle sticks.
the like button sends whatever default reaction you've set, unless it's to some specific fedi software in which case it just sends a like (sharkey does make this especially funky, it sucks)
@not@pleroma.envs.net@novenary@julia@pinkcreeper100 Yeah looking at admin panel there's not a setting that overrides the ❤️ emoji appearing from remote likes. This setting only impacts the default user settings. If the user overrides that it no longer applies the :Blobhaj_Heart: to people's posts when clicking the like button. Now the question is, if you set your default like button to ❤️ does sharkey send it as a like? Or is it just a heart react :thinka:

@navi@not@pleroma.envs.net@novenary@julia@pinkcreeper100 it also feels like it's only mastodon that can really change spec. i mean technically yes anyone is free to not abide by spec. this is how we end up with things like mastoapi, instance software that doesn't implement mastoapi and now everything is a mess. It'd be great if there was actual extensions or it was proper but whatever. I don't have high hopes that it'll ever get untangled to say the least lol
