I have been having a profoundly bad week and I think the only thing that can counteract it is one of those moments like at the end of the first Digimon movie where everyone's internet friends send good vibes as a power-up so if people could spare some power-up energy for me that would be rad.
The charming historical walk-up diner down the street from me that I always meant to go to but never got around to is now burning down so I think we're gonna have to vibe a little harder to reach escape velocity.
My health is mostly fine, I had a cough/fatigue for a few days but covid test was negative.
The cats are mostly fine but a pair who were adopted 2 years ago are back with me because their owner is moving and their new landlord just... fucking changed their mind about cats, and I am LIVID about that but they're trying to make it temporary. One of the cats is super angry right now and I agree with him honestly, this IS bullshit.
@triphazard I really need to go to a doctor for the generalized fatigue I've been dealing with all year, but I haven't gotten around to finding a general practitioner since I moved (like 5? 6? years ago now) and just thinking about it makes me need a nap.
I had property maintenance barging in for a few days trying to unfuck my gas lines while I tried to obscure exactly how many felines are staying with me, which made me super stressed about how badly I need to get some of these adult cats adopted. So having two more was not stress I needed.
Then my AC was acting up, and it seems to have just needed to let the coils thaw, but sweating in my apartment sent me on a climate collapse depression spiral.
Also I had jury duty, which I was excused from because I Have Been The Victim Of A Crime (car break-in) that was too close to the charged crime. Still had to be up too early and was stressed about my AC the whole time.
Also MY FUCKING GLASSES BROKE, and I'd just made an appointment to get the prescription updated at the end of the month but it was one more thing I just did not need.
I've just been angry about landlords barging in, angry that I can't just buy a house, just a quaint little one, so I can help all these cats without having to stress out about it, angry that part of why I'm having to help so many cats is because people are dumping them and I'm willing to allow a lot of THAT is because of housing problems, angry that the world is ending because resource hoarders can't stop being absolute monsters...
Also I have been hot because of the aforementioned AC problems and dreading ANOTHER round of property management barging in while I am literally taking a shit and being hot in my home makes me super angry at everything. I hate being sweaty.
But leaving it off for a couple hours at night seems to have allowed it to thaw out so hopefully that particular nightmare is over.
I think in the process of putting out that fire I mentioned yesterday they broke the water main, because I left for work while they were still fighting it and there was a big fresh water-filled pothole right down the street from me. So I'm on a boil water advisory for a couple days but they did get things fixed well enough for me to shower before work, so that's... something?
Woke up this morning, looked at the ceiling fan, looked at my phone, and thought, "Well good, still got power and internet." Water's shut off while they work on the line today, hoping to have it back tonight because I need to flush that toilet. I've got bottled water for myself (and do most of my water-drinking at work anyway) and a fellow foster brought me some gallon jugs of drinking water for the cats.
@trixter Fun fact you may already know, if you dump water into a toilet fast enough it'll automatically trigger a flush even if the water's off.
Our water is off a LOT where I live (very old pipes in the neighborhood, lots of leaks) so we just keep a couple of old milk jugs full of not-for-drinking water next to the toilet, and if the water goes out, you put like half a gallon of water in a bucket and then dump it in all at once to flush
@DrakkenZero Last night when it was just "non-potable" and not yet totally turned off I filled a big pot with water for utility stuff, so if it's still not on by the time I get home I might have to do that. I was vaguely aware of the concept but unsure of how much it'd take.
@trixter I'm not sure about the exact volume of water, but the important thing is to get as much of it in at one time as you can, that's why we transfer from the jugs to the bucket when we're ready to flush. If you just pour in from a jug, it will drain off the excess water but not trigger the full "flush" siphon effect.
@trixter I literally share your anger over the same things, except the cats because I don't foster cats so I won't try to pretend like I know that stress. My husband said almost exactly the same things a few days ago.
I stopped sharing work talk with him, because it's pretty bad. We're literally in genetic engineering biodiversity into organisms, like coral, territory level bad. Adaptation is dependent on genetic entropy, which takes a lot of generations to build, and we wiped large chunks of biodiversity. So, biologist are brain storming genetic engineering solutions that are probably dead on arrival because evangelicals hate science. Somehow driving species to extinction is not playing god, but trying to save them - and us - is.
@digital_wyrm It's bad, and then on top of that you have people - a lot of them in positions of power in the US, and trying hard for a dictatorship - who believe that any resources that haven't been used up by the Rapture will be an affront to God, and we're in such a bad spot. And it's so hard for people to wrap their heads around, because that's how bad it is.
@trixter My mother was raised in a deep south Christian cult that has a literal belief in Armageddon. The left has their version of that. UFOs connotes the same thing as animistic cults, such as Christian cults that believe in the rapture. Many folks in leftist anarchist spaces have gone full on High Strangeness and believe aliens are coming back. I have literally seen anarchist who were at the stop cop city protests pray to aliens. We're in a bad spot.
@trixter Some 20 years ago I was contacted by a dude who tried to gather as many people to channel "internet energy" so he would be protected from the local politician's power and possibly fight back.
He gave me the time and the date when I was supposed to close one eye with my hand and tighten the back muscle of my head while looking at his email.
Later he sent an email that it didn't help because obviously not enough people did it and he'll contact us with a later date
