I actually think the focus on the characters is one of the show’s strengths. Without the soapiness, it’s an interesting concept that could still work, but the emotional hard hits from all the drama are really what set the show apart in my mind.
FINALLY someone else who sees it. I thought season 1 was a good start, season 2 didn't really have the characters evolve much? Like the gay girl starts the season hiding who she is in favour of her career, and ends the season hiding who she is in favour of her.
This turned into a rant, but the first episode of season 3 killed the whole show for me. It's rare that I watch an episode and just fully stop watching a show before the end. Y'all motherfuckers telling me "oh you'll love this if you loved The Expanse", owe me for how awful the physics of that episode are.
It's absolutely brilliant. One of my favorite shows. I'll never use an iPhone and hate apple as a company.... But I do have to concede that between mythic quest, for all mankind and severance that they have some of the best shows.
