How can the one we have be better than the one we have?
Perhaps it would have been clearer if the latter was presented in past tense - the one we had?
#Mastodon_social does not, however, qualify, since it is itself the deprecated model, considering it's just another monolithic silo itself in most respects.

The Mastodon Social issue is bound to confuse people again. The point is we don't want confusion for new users, and that si why many say either just refer to Mastodon Social, or recommend a specific other instance that may be good for a new user whom you know. Getting too etchnical just puts off new users. I realised I can't explain the background - they must jump in
@tallship yes soem of those long format text networks can be much better - which is why I also post myself to Hubzilla and Friendica with my full text. Yes, I know it is unnecessary duplication, but I seem to ahve built up very different followings on each network.
Let's not forget (shameless plug coming) your excellent #PeerTube 'walk-through tutorials' for #Fediverse and other #FOSS technologies that folks should be aware of.
I know I send folks links to those on a regular basis and they really help people understand how the Fediverse, and to a more general degree, #DeSoc and #Smolweb empowers them via your explanations and guided tours.
