“Sharp Dressed Man” is one of ZZ Top’s best known songs, performed by ZZ Top from their signature album Eliminator released in 1983. The song is famous for its guitar riff, recognizable chorus, and music video which received a large amount of airplay during the early years of MTV. When released as a single late in the year, it became their most successful song so far, reaching #2 on the Mainstream Rock charts and #56 on Pop Singles. The lyrics deal with how women have a fondness for men wearing elegant clothes.
The song is featured in the 2005 video game Guitar Hero, as well as a brief appearance on an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head entitled “Radio Sweethearts,” in which it can be heard on a radio. It also appeared on an S&K men’s suits commercial. Debbie Harry covered the song on her “Domination” tour of the UK in July 1991. At 2007’s VH1 Rock Honors. Nickelback covered the song as a tribute (Billy Gibbons had earlier made a guest appearance on Nickelback’s own song “Rockstar”). This song has also been in an episode of Mountie O’reely titled ‘Mountie O’reely and the Fountain of Youth’ and most recently it was featured during a scene in the 2007 movie Evan Almighty. ZZ Top played this song at halftime of the 2008 FedEx Orange Bowl. The guitar solo was ranked number 43 on Guitar World’s “100 Best Guitar Solos”.
Nowadays the song can be briefly heard in A&E’s American reality TV series; Duck Dynasty.
Graphic adventure computer game Space Quest: the Sarien Encounter features an alien bar showcasing ZZ Top performing Sharp Dressed Man. Sierra, who developed the game, got sued for using their image without permission. Regardless they are featured in the remake.
Social media is great. Example #56: Posts from farm people earnestly making the case that the best animal is not the dog or cat but their donkey/pig/horse/goat/sheep/camel/emu ❤️
The 24 minute ones are throw away recylcled plots painted with whatever genre and cast the show thinks people will like at the time its released.
The hour long ones are secretly 8+ hour movies, which are ALSO just throw away recycled plots painted with whatever genre and cast the algorithms think are popular at the time of creation.
Bring on the long format youtube videos. Game plots are often much more nuanced than traditional media, and learning about something you’re already interested in is leagues better than drinking in whatever throw away plot the whatever throw away characters are doing today in adult animated show #56.
What I actually said is that the standard of living is going up in China while it’s not going up in capitalist countries. If China was capitalist then you’d expect the same thing to happen as it does everywhere else where there is capitalism. China would look something like India right now.
Numbeo is ranking India at #56, China at #65 for quality of life index.
China is notable for having a recent rapid increase. It’s easier to have a big delta number, when your starting number is so low.
Once you show me somebody doing it better than China then we’ll talk.
According to Numbeo there are still 64 counties doing better on the quality of life index than China.
And nobody is expecting them to voluntarily give up wealth, taking the wealth away and nationalizing things is the job of the government. Of course, you refuse to accept the fact that working class holds power in China and that’s what your fallacious view of China is premised on.
Working class holds what power? Tencent and Alibaba aren’t owned by its workers. Why would the government ever decide to give up its joint wealth and power with the billionaire class? What could the workers possibly do to hold them accountable?
1/4 Torrent (T) by Jeremy Schoenherr and Rückkopplung (R) by @pxlshrd and Adam Berninger were released almost at the same time and deal with memory and personal biography.
They are both beautiful works of #GenerativeArt that seem to be in a dialogue visually and thematically.
3/4 Rückkopplung, on the other hand, appears to be darker, noisier, and achieves its beauty from the interaction of its many visual elements. This could be seen to reflect how people are defined by all of their experiences, the good and the bad ones.
The artist explained the occuring elements in detail, and names like "mementos" or "resistance" show how the project is dealing with biographies and psychology (link to artist's thread: https://twitter.com/pxlshrd/status/1694413238128038360?s=20)
