For better/worse, much advocacy chatter in happens in a FB group. Here's a cross post from me:

As a follow-up to past discussions, I tried contacting Walmart and Adams (Hudson Valley grocery + garden store) to request .

Walmart wrote, "Should there be any updates or developments regarding this idea, we will make sure to communicate them."

Adams wrote back that they were buying a rack.

So, when on 9W, shop local! And if I die on 9W, please politicize my death.

Does anybody know of a better umbrella term than "non-standard bicycle" for all bikes that are not the "standard" shape? So including bikes/trikes, and other but also etc

Some ideas if nothing exists already:

  • altercycle
  • laterocycle
  • pretercycle
  • teratocycle
  • nothocycle

I want language to talk about how storage infrastructure doesn't include bents, cargobikes, trikes, etc.

@xtaran @bicripple the "Ordinary" was the bike with a large front wheel and fixed pedals, and then came the "safety bicycle" with the triangular frame. In any case, Extraordinary seems not to be a great or very correct term for the non-safety bicycles (also not a great term) so I'm no help. 🤷 I tend to just mention or as two kinds of atypical cycle that need to be considered in . At least that covers extra width or length consideration, sorry tallbikers.

Look what appeared in my office building! Two new staple racks. This is a LEED certified building with convenient underground parking, but the only racks were wall mounted. Many folks, including me, didn't bother with the wall racks and locked to handrails etc. instead (of course only in ways that didn't impede accessibility!). I don't know if anyone complained about the situation or the building manager was proactive, but it's great to see expanded options!

Another newly installed staple rack in an underground parking garage. Empty wall-mounted bike racks are visible behind the new rack.

punching themselves in the face dept: is discarding its bike parking requirements from building code without making any effort to make up this function out of the free or excessively cheap on-street that their dept provides for cars.

Can anyone point me to some examples of good bike parking infrastructure for a primary/elementary school (students ages 5-11)?

The bike racks in my district are woefully inadequate, even for American suburbia, and I want to know what I should advocate for.

(Boost for reach? 🙏🏻)

Inspired by the example, here are all of the unloading zones in that could become bike parking outside of delivery hours…

does this very clever thing with some loading zones: Turn them into bike parking outside of delivery hours!

I just took my bike to drop off some dry cleaning, and I made a point of leaving my helmet on. There's a disappointing amount of contention around bike infrastructure in Berkeley lately, particularly targeting local business owners with fear, uncertainty, and doubt about losing parking to bike lanes etc... so I want to make sure folks know they already have plenty of customers visiting them by bike.

@marcprecipice @lucas every time I do a review on Google maps --retail or restaurant-- I comment on the quality of the service/meal, AND the . And I delight in wearing my bike helmet while grocery shopping.

Today I brought home a patio plant stand on the back of my omafiets. It was fun watching the surprised faces of people in cars.

Staple-style covered bike racks at the Ontario Science Centre, steps from the entrance, accessible from a beautiful trail ride through the Don Valley. Doesn't get any better than this!

Has any seen a installed anywhere in the US? and models are all over cities in Europe, but I haven’t seen any here yet… (photo from @workcycles blog article here: https://www.bakfiets-en-meer.nl/2009/12/17/de-fietshangar-bike-hangar/)

Looks like Mayo could use more secure bike parking. Of course that would cost 3-4 car parking spaces. Hmmm.

I think we need more bike racks…
