My second favorite piece featuring the Horn in Chamber Music (small ensembles). An older recording. Very good recording, despite using primitive recording technology.

Johannes Brahms, Horn trio, Eb major, Op. 40 - Recorded in London, 13 November 1933

Adolf Busch, violin
Aubrey Brain, horn (Dennis Brain's father)
Rudolf Serkin, piano

I. Andante (0:00)
II. Scherzo. Allegro (8:11)
III. Adagio mesto (15:11)
IV. Allegro con brio (23:30)

Musical Interlude: I've had spring on the brain today, and here's a piece that has always sung of springtime to me. I guess it could easily indicate something else to other listeners, but for me, it speaks of the gentle warmth of a spring day.

"Piano Concerto No. 2," composed by Johannes Brahms, performed by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, conducted by Bernard Haitink, with Emanuel Ax on piano.

Another reason to get #DeutscheGrammophon's Stage+, is live performances. I am looking forward to Lang Lang & Gina Alice performing #SaintSaëns's Carnival of the Animals, with #AndrisNelsons of all people conducting! Live stream both Saturday and Sunday. #classicalmusic @classicalmusic

Last weekend on Stage+ I watched Lisa Batiashvili, Gautier Capuçon and Zubin Mehta perform #Brahms. I have most of #LisaBatiashvili's album, she is a lovely #violinist, with a clear unique style. I had never visually seem her perform before. But of course, #GautierCapuçon, seemed to me, to try to steal the performance. He is a good #cellist and he has been on some really good albums as a collaborator, but he rubs me the wrong way. He is not that great. Perhaps he's a nice guy.

Yesterday I discovered Stage+ from Deutsche Grammophon. It's pretty great.

I watched:

with the Berliner Philharmoniker brilliantly perform at Suntory Hall in 2000

and perform just last month

and perform 's Goldberg Variations in Seoul in 2023

I think I just found my new self-care regiment. Wish it were less than $15 + tax. It's DG so no surprise, but any more and I wouldn't do it.

Ferocity and grace: Gianandrea Noseda conducts Prokofiev and Brahms with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican.

Prokofiev's Fourth has never really done it for me as a symphony (it's the weakest of the seven, I think), though you couldn't fault the performance. Simon Trpceski was wonderful in Brahms's Second Piano Concerto.

Taking a bow with the amazing ! First concert of seven in the books. This of the Missouri Symphony is going to be an absolute blast! Coming up, Friday 6/30, we will be performing Gabriela Ortiz’s Clara, Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto, and Saint-Saëns’s Third Symphony in our “Clara: Inspiration & Legacy” concert! @classicalmusic

One of my favorite pieces of classical music is Brahm's Hungarian Dances. Especially No .6, which I originally feel in love with because it was featured in Mad Maestro! which was included in a PS2 demo disc I had. One of my favorite things is when composers adapt piano pieces to orchestra.

Just listened to this arrangement of it performed by the Estonian Festival Orchestra. It's a very interesting interpretation.
