Finally got to playing around with PlayStation 2 emulation on my Steam Deck via EmuDeck. It's not intuitive that you need to use the PCSX2 QT emulator rather than through EmulationStation Desktop Edition like I do with 8 and 16-bit consoles (plus PSX and PSP, though they use standalone emulators, but launch via ES-DE).

So far, Final Fantasy X runs at 2x graphical scaling without too many graphical glitches. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 has strange audio cut outs during the intro FMV but not during a quick game.

At this point, I'm using ISO or .bin+.cue files and haven't converted them to DVD-format CHD files. Maybe later once I see how other games play.

Due to the silliness that is Steam ROM Manager, I had to create .m3u files for each of my PlayStation games, whether or not they are multi-disc games, and changed the parser filter to only look at .m3u files to prevent a bunch of extra cruft showing up.

I now have original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PSP, GameCube, Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS games populating in my Steam library. Games for all other consoles are accessed through Emulation Station.

Although the guide is now a year old, I have been using Retro Game Corps' Steam Deck emultion guide as a way to remember all of the various key mappings and hotkey combos between the various non-RetroArch emulators (consistency, there is none).

My current side project is trying to set up on my with a pretty massive set of ROMs and it's turning into a real chore since there's no easy way to get the ROMs onto the Steam Deck. It involves using an external harddrive, dealing with a specific directory structure, and manually copying the ROMs from the drive to the Deck. It's a whole thing. I really hope it works right once all that is done.

i'm enjoying but on a it isn't great. the view from the cockpit in particular is not remotely awe-inspiring to say the least. even on low/med i can't hit 30fps, and dialing everything to max doesn't really elevate the experience any either so i hope this is some sort of bug in the game.

otherwise i will be streaming this game from a virtual machine i pass a GPU to in the IOW house. something tells me eGPU over thunderbolt isn't going to work as intended.

@jake4480 i am the ideal enthusiast for but its a convoluted mess and i can get some games running but not most. my ancient PSP has a better experience for emulation of old consoles 🤦

@steamdeckhq I tried to get into the old Final Fantasy games (SNES) in the deck via and I was reminded why I didn't play them the first time around.

At least as combat is concerned. Got frustrated with fighing monsters and bosses where I had no idea how to attack. And if you didn't level up and got a spell or something, tough. You needed that for a boss. Not even following modern guides I could finish them.

Sea of Stars, and Octopath Traveller II, kind of solve this.
