windows just deprecated windows mixed reality. thousands of headsets are going to become bricked. open source drivers (monado) do not fully support WMR. they are still selling WMR headsets like the Reverb G2. there is no refund policy. the only way to use WMR is to never upgrade your windows install. fuck microsoft.

Yeah, that's a shit move:

On top of taking away the optical drive, the #XboxSeriesS is also downgraded in #Specifications compared to the #XboxSeriesX...

So basically there are two different platforms...

If I were a #AAA #GameDev I'd also either skip the #Microsoft #XboxSeries and ask #Sony for a #PS5 exclusivity bonus or don't bother to optimize for SeriesX when #SeriesS games will run just fine on the bigger #Xbox...

A wild idea that I don't have the knowledge to pull off...

Has anyone created a pair of cameras whose distance can be varied? (For example, a motor shifts the distance between the two cameras.)

If a computer knows the distance between its two cameras, it might be able to make a 3-d map of the surface of an object. The varying distance between the cameras would help with further objects -- or with closer, small objects.

Does this exist already?

Update: The above idea is called "Range Imaging" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Range_imaging ) and it does exist. Thanks!

@Chip_Unicorn That being said it is possible in theory and I did see some practical applications, like clip-on lenses for sensor bars so people can play closer to the sensor and in a tighter playspace than it was designed for.

OFC the opposite is also possible tho optically more challenging - not to mention that artificially increasing the playspace needed for the Kinect doesn't have any advantages except requiring more movement and poorer movement detection...

@Chip_Unicorn But yeah, that "Range Imaging" has been done and in fact I've seen some 3D scanning with Kinect Modules that provided blind people with acoustic heatmaps for rooms and hallways.

Tho having a strapped to their face was considered not socially acceptable even before the rise of the |s despite said Kinect sensor not being used to record anything but only scanthe envoirment for obstructions.

In 2009 Peter showed us demos of . An boy that could see us through and interact with us. We have since not heard from him. What's up with that? Is Milo trapped inside the XBox? He would be a young adult by now! Is he being forced to go through a series of torturous experiments? Wait. This is . Is ChatGPT actually Milo with a bunch of cables stuck to his head?
