MLS is the first standardized and fully specified end-to-end encryption protocol. It brings substantial improvements in performance and security compared to existing protocols. We have been involved in the design and development of the MLS protocol since the very beginning.
We’ve been following the @ietf standards work on #MessagingLayerSecurity with interest, since it's a modern protocol that enables more comprehensive protection of communications, making end-to-end encrypted messaging for groups more efficient and secure. The Sovereign Tech Fund has supported OpenMLS, an open source implementation of MLS, whose work has contributed immensely to the establishment of the standard. Today we are releasing OpenMLS 0.5. This release includes substantial improvements making it compliant with RFC 9420 (aka #MessagingLayerSecurity) and covering extensive interoperability testing with other implementations.
🥁🥁🥁 Say hi to Messaging Layer Security! After 5 years in the making, the protocol has been published as RFC 9420. #MLS is the first standardized and fully specified end-to-end #encryption protocol. The specification is freely accessible, and its security has been analyzed in numerous academic publications.
We wrote a blog post giving a high-level overview of MLS, its practical applications, and why it matters. https://blog.phnx.im/rfc-9420-mls/
