I took another shot on processing the same data. The result is (hopefully) better.

On March 23, I experienced a rare event... a clear sky... so despite 99% Moon and my Bortle 7 sky, I went for it.

It's been exactly 1 year since I uploaded my video on how to process a picture of a comet using Siril. New comets are visible and the technique still works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XrdNxMqW9g @Siril_Official
My hair was crazier back then...

I spent this weekend working with our images of the Orion Nebula. While this image is a work in progress, it notably marks my first attempt at employing the HDR technique to enhance the details in the nebula's luminous core. It also demonstrates how much progress we have made over the past year.

Imaging by @alex NYC - Bortle 9 / 640 x 180s subs and 125 x 15s subs / Sony a6300 (ISO 400) / Z61 (f5.9, 360 mm) /AM5 /ZWO asi120mm mini

This is my first serious attempt at this target in the new season, and I am rather pleased. It will be interesting to reprocess this one in .

The following shot of the is 2.5 hours of integration using the Celestron C11 at f/10 and using a dual band Ha/OIII filter. Then stretched in to try to balance the Ha (orange) and OIII (blue) bands. This was taken on the 11/5. In other words I’ve spent the last 5 days fussing over it.

Here is the final result of our other long-term October project: The Andromeda Galaxy. Like our revisitation of the Pleiades star cluster, this image demonstrates the progress we have made over the past year.

I’ve tried to use previously for stacking but was never satisfied with the results. Several updates were made last month that improved it giving tighter stars and a cleaner image to my eyes. I plan on using it for stacking going forward. I will continue to use for stretching. Here’s Messier 33 that uses that process.

I was talking to my son on the phone yesterday and I told him I suck at stretching my images, and he encouragingly said that I’d figure it out. Motivated, I spent time today working in and stretching a month’s old shot of M42. I think I made progress.

Took this Wednesday night, NGC 7023, Iris Nebula. Apparent mag 6.8. Telescope = 8” SCT with a cooled color cmos camera. I stacked 60, 2-minute subs using . All I can say is it sucks less than my previous work. Last time I did the Iris Nebula it came out looking like a bag of black sand. 🦧

Finally got some decent flats for to use during stacking. These were used for processing on Sharpless 115/116 emission nebulas that I targeted earlier this week with the 5 inch refractor, ASI2400MC camera, and the dual band filter.
Sh2-116 is the small round nebula.

OK so it's not the greatest version of M31 ever, but I was caught out by surprise clear skies last night, so flung the Dwarf.ii scope up in a matter of minutes and left it overnight.
It shot 511 frames from which I've been able to make this :)

(Also: wow, @Siril_Official is coming along leaps & bounds these days... :) )

Here is our latest project after several weeks of terrible astrophotography weather. With a new AM5 mount, we were able to capture two- and three-minute subs. For comparison's sake, we chose to re-image the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae.

This is another test photo I took the other night with the dual band filter, NGC 6888 the Crescent Nebula. For this shot I used to separate out and put emphasis on the H-alpha data coming through the filter. Again, satisfactory results for only 30 minutes of exposures.
