There are SO MANY more covers I love, but I kept it to five. This hashtag is really fun to scan through. So many great lists, and some tracks I'd NEVER heard of. Gonna be listening a good chunk of the night 😁
The High Lord Of The List, the intrepid Italian, the never-to-be-counted-out @neurothing has sounded the horn, lit 🔥the #ThursdayFiveList beacon🔥 and called forth the banners again! To assemble and muster and collect all your music lists with 5 songs relating to a given topic as chosen by the aforementioned High Lord.
This week the word coming down from the battlements is: #TheCover (as in: versions of songs, well known or otherwise, by another artist)
My first pick for #TheCover episode of this week's #ThursdayFiveList is Darkthrone's version of the Siouxsie & The Banshees classic "Love In A Void". Raw Svartmetall guitars, Fenriz' rabid drumming - and the vocals are especially amazing. Noisy Goth party time! 😁
Speaking of Goth: next on my list of #ThursdayFiveList picks is #TheCover of the Zager & Evans song "In The Year 2525" by my favorite foggy boys, Fields Of The Nephilim. I always felt that Carl McCoy's voice, style and intonations are a much better fit. Plus they stretched it out quite a bit. That also adds to it, not just in runtime.
My third pick for this week's #ThursdayFiveList is not only a cover - it is, in my opinion, really #THECover (all caps THE) of "Turbo Lover" by the mighty Judas Priest. And while the original is of course pretty great... the version that The Lion's Daughter have concocted is. So! Much! Better! Not totally different from the source, but way more impactful. Amped up. Frightening even.
No. 4 on this #ThursdayFiveList of covers is yet another #THECover (all caps THE). Meaning a cover that is so good it surpasses the original by leaps and bounds. This one's by Motörhead (🙏Most holy and exalted!🙏) and it's their version of Metallica's "Whiplash". One could argue that the song already was a kinda Motörhead-y song from the get-go, of course... but that only proves the point! 😁
Last one! And it's special. Pick no. 5 for my #ThursdayFiveList full of #TheCover is the Ghost version of Roky Erickson's "If You Have Ghosts". It's special not only because it's a beautiful rendition of Roky's song, but also because it always reminds me of a very dear friend of mine. One who also has ghosts. A part of it is me. In the night she's real. Wherever is the wind in the night. 🖤
