the mods on https://tilde.chat irc are fucking assholes who literally blocked the word "fedipact" from being allowed to be said in chat

i've given this place so many chances but they never stop finding sneaky ways to be assholes to me

WHAT the FUCK

EDIT: it was for NO REASON btw. just because they were annoyed with it being in my display name whenever i'd post links to my posts on here

Even though Unix existed before DOS and the command line was far more important to Unix users than Windows users, text user interfaces (TUI) never really took off among or text editors.

This is a fun piece exploring why even though or are incredibly powerful, their interfaces are junk compared to 1980s DOS programming environments. https://blogsystem5.substack.com/p/the-ides-we-had-30-years-ago-and

There is one Unix editor that is in this tradition though: .

Check it out here: https://os.ghalkes.nl/tilde/

What a coincidence, I haven't read it but it seems that @kev and I wrote about the same thing, just start a , come on!

I kinda deviated and also talked about the history of own my website, but I think my main point comes across nicely enough :blobcatderpy:

@jnv @janet @kev I use Vercel, I've used Netlify for the same thing, super easy to setup with Jekyll, Eleventy and other static site generators.

There's also https://neocities.org which is like the good old geocities.

You could join a , a public unix server where you login via ssh and get your own web directory, I use https://tilde.cafe and whatever you put in ~/public is a available to everyone.

Or just good old WordPress or even Blogger is enough

Planning on setting up a server in the next month or two. I need your suggestions for software to install on it.

I want the WEIRD stuff. I am not talking about your standard "install all the shells you can get your hands on" kind of deal. I want strange, funky console applications that barely anyone has laid eyes on in 20 years. Whatcha got?

(Please boost)

God, 28 years of muscle memory, still there. Quoting and replying to some mail on a tilde in alpine, I needed to remove some quoted lines, and immediately ^K'd, without even thinking once.

May bago na palang rules ang "ng/nang" 😭

wabiwalden,

@teacherbuknoy I have a that back then there was no distinction between and in . Ng was just an of nang to save on ink and space on precious paper. I came up with this idea from noticing that old texts put a on the ng similar to how old texts put a tilde on q to mean que. There were also tildes on mga but sometimes they spelled mga as manga without the tilde.
