This week we look back and see the signs of our transness were always with us, and talk about one of the most important lines in the entire movie.
We also overcompensate in trying to prove how not-trans we are, and that causes all kinds of problems for ourselves (and there's an entire bucket full of Matrix references)! @mystical_alexis returns to discuss superfluous men!
Tillyvision continues with THE INTENTIONAL (!) TRANS ALLEGORY OF #BARBIE (the movie), PART 3!
We’re gonna engage with the subconscious, experience more body changes, and take our first steps into the real world as ourselves. Things are gonna get weird!
Tillyvision returns! Do you guys ever think about dying?
The BARBIE movie rocked my world, and I instantly connected with it on a fundamental level, even beyond the surface feminist story. Do you wanna know why?
BARBIE is one hundo percent an intentional (?!) trans allegory!
This week: context, why it's Funny Pink MATRIX, the film's visual language, and we learn all about Barbie's world of lies! @mystical_alexis joins us to discuss!
Welcome to #TransTuesday! This week we begin a big series so many of you have been waiting and asking for. Do you guys ever think about dying? Tillyvision returns for
THE INTENTIONAL (!?) TRANS ALLEGORY OF BARBIE (the movie), PART 1!
This movie had a HUGE impact on trans audiences, especially we trans women. And it’s because there’s a beating heart of transness within.
You may not believe me now, but stick with me to the end. Because by then, I believe you will 🙂
This week we’re talking about a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad concept that plagues the trans community, and you might be surprised to learn where it comes from:
How do you describe the indescribable, something so pervasive and yet so inscrutable?
Join me as I tackle one of the biggest topics for many trans people. We're gonna talk about how there's no escaping it, and then see if I can put into words what it's like to live with.
We're joined by therapist, author, and gender specialist Dr. Alex Iantaffi to discuss needing to see ourselves to find ourselves!
This week’s topic is a big one, and kind of the reason for everything. That’s right, we’re talking about everyone’s least favorite thing, our not-so-friendly constant companion:
GENDER DYSPHORIA.
Dypshoria’s remarkably difficult to talk about. Finding the right words to express it is beyond difficult, and I’m a damned writer. I’ve been trying to describe it in words for years, and it’s still a challenge.
My 6-year old daughter begged me to buy a Beanie Baby puppy plushie from the grocery store. I looked at the name tag, and noted to my daughter that Hugo is a boy's name. She said that didn't matter, because she wanted her to be a girl. She considered giving her a new girl's name, but ended up just keeping her as Hugo. It can be that simple.
Hugo (She/Her) is Izzy's absolute favorite plushie.
Didja ever notice how one little annoyance isn't a big deal, but if you get twenty of them in a day it's a problem? Doubly so when they're about your very identity?
So let's talk about TRANS MICROAGGRESSIONS, what they are, and why they're so awful. We've got lots of examples!
@aprilkirby returns to discuss the masks we put up and coming out of the polybag! Are we all always learning to be more of a human? Nunya bizness!
This week we’re discussing something every trans person has to deal with, all these little things that add up in ways cis people likely don’t even realize.
It’s death by a thousand cuts with TRANS MICROAGGRESSIONS.
Let's talk about what they are and why they're awful, including examples of the most common ones!
This week we’re talking about how when queer people finally get SOME representation that’s long been denied (specifically in A League Of Their Own) some cishet people, even allies, Cannot Process That.
Welcome to: IMPLICIT QUEERPHOBIA.
Cishet people, it’s important for you to read this and understand what’s going on here. Sharing is encouraged. Because this is largely about you and the way you react to things about people who are… not you.
This week we’re discussing how wanting, NEEDING to transition to our true selves can provide us with a seemingly infinite wellspring of incentive to accomplish things we never thought we could.
It's the wrap-up of our discussion on trans rep in movies and tv in 2023! This week we finishing talking TV, and see where things are at overall!
Critic, journalist, and author Mo Ryan returns to discuss not being happy with crumbs anymore, and being gently radical!
Includes discussions on Our Flag Means Death, Quantum Leap, Somebody Somewhere, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Ted Lasso, Upload, Yellowjackets, and more!
We begin my 3-part report on 2023 trans rep in media! We're going to discuss the good, the bad, and just how often there was nothing at all to discuss. This week: movies!
Critic, journalist, and author Maureen Ryan joins us to discuss the demystification of Hollywood and who's insulated from career blowback.
This episode includes in-depth discussions on Barbie, Elemental, Joyride, Monica, Nimona, and more!
Trans people are a small percentage of the population, and that means for many cis people out there, if you know a trans person, they're probably the only one you know.
Which means we're constantly getting bombarded with questions about our existence, and the cumulative effect can be a problem.
Writer/costume designer @vivaciousvandal returns to discuss stilettos as murder weapons!
