"#Batteries the biggest player again as renewable records smashed in #California, reach 156 pct of load
Last week battery storage became, for the first time, the largest supply source in the evening peak of what is one of the world’s largest grids. On Tuesday, it discharged more than 6 GW for the first time, providing up to a 25 per cent share of supply, and was the biggest provider on the grid for two hours."
"The records continue to tumble in #California, one of the world’s biggest state grids, with #BatteryStorage playing an increasingly dominant role soaking up solar in the middle of the day and shifting it to the evening peak, where it is now regularly the biggest single supplier."
Over a month ago I promised a blog on my Heat Pump and Solar Panels and Battery Storage.
I've finally hit "publish" (well, actually "rsync" but whatever)
It may, or may not, answer any/all questions you have about this. If not, maybe ask me here and I'll try to reply and forget to include that in a future update.
I just got a check for nearly $1,800 from #Eversource for letting them use the power in my batteries during summer peak usage times. Paying customers to use their stored power during spikes is cheaper for them than building new generation capacity.
If you're on the fence about installing #solar panels with #BatteryStorage in #Massachusetts, this is a good reason to consider it. At this rate the batteries will more than pay for themselves over their usable life.

Finally got around to switching to Octopus Flux, which gets us cheap electricity to charge the batteries during the night. Of course, the day it goes active we get glorious sunshine and now I have a full battery but nowhere to store the solar. shakes fist at sun#solar#solarpower#batterystorage#renewables
#Retrofitting and #Building upgrades are the easiest way to align three societal objectives: it can help people save money, it can help safe the environment and its a nice way of "not giving it to #Putin".
I want to share the story of my dad, who has spent the past 20 years optimizing my family home to produce more energy than it consumes.
He is an #engineer, so this comes much more natural to him as me being an #economist, but I think this story is an #inspiration.
The biggest shift was the upgrade to triple glazing. Installers wanted my dad to throw away the hand crafted wooden window frames. But with the help of a local carpenter he devised a way to beef up the frames to hold the weight.
Eventually, as PV panel prices dropped and after finally, there was a subsidy package in place my dad had #PV#SolarPanels installed together with a cloud #batterystorage.
Most #PV installations are carried out on south facing roofs, ours is East-West facing.
