How pointless is Dutton's budget reply, 'promising' things you know he will never deliver if the Coalition gets back in next year.

I'm always interested that when discussion turns to cost of living the very real cost of car ownership is never discussed. People talk about the cost of the vehicle, and sometimes about petrol/electricity, but they never talk about registration, insurance, maintenance, road tolls, parking, etc. Even if you avoid tolls and paid parking, the average car owner is paying over $5000 a year per car just to run a vehicle.

Just putting this in context, that's about 100 average taxi fares per year. Or one cab fare every 3.5 days.

Remember, a surplus in a government budget means they've FAILED to spend on social and public goods - the things that build a society and lift people up.

"The budget is a piece of theatre meant for your consumption. It is a cute moment–a photogenic moment where a multimillionaire can hold up a red box and bribe you with a bit of your money, while they and all the other multimillionaires bankrupt the government with monetary and fiscal stimulus packages that seem somehow to always end up in their own pockets"

The excellent Gary Stevenson tells it like it is

South may seek nationhood if funds are not distributed equally: Karnataka Congress MP D.K. Suresh

Arguing that there was injustice in distribution of funds between and northern and southern States, with the latter getting a raw deal, he said: “We are seeing injustice on all forms... If we do not condemn it, there could be a situation when we (southern States) have to demand a separate country.”
