#DayOfTheTentacle finished!! It's such a wonderful and fun adventure, I love it!
I did use a walkthrough for some parts where I got stuck because well, I'm old and I don't have the time to try every single combination of object interactions or make the required logical leaps required to beat it myself... But still, I've enjoyed it so much. It is awesome how much to do they managed to cram in just three versions of the same house. A true lesson in adventure design mastery 🥰🥰🥰
I do remember a whole lot, but apparently only about the first third of the game. 😬
I've now got most things done with Hoagie and Bernard, but I'm still stuck on what to do with Laverne. I can move around freely, but it looks like I'm missing one crucial piece to advance.
I'll have a look at that tomorrow.
Alright! Let's get this party started like it's '93! 😎
This is an amazing game and I'm happy to play it again. Even though I haven't played it in forever, I still remember a lot about this game, e.g. what to do with the red paint. 😬
So far, I've done a few things with Hoagie in the past, up to the point where Laverne finally becomes playable. I still have to search the Edison mansion with Bernard.
Color concept art for the Edisons (then the Schwartzes) in Maniac Mansion, from @danielalbu's interview with Gary Winnick. Note the absence of blue skin!
I suspect the later enhanced EGA versions gave the Edisons blue skin to suggest a pallor from not going outside for 20 years, within the restrictions of the EGA palette - something done much more effectively in VGA in Day of the Tentacle. #maniacmansion#dayofthetentacle#dott#lucasarts#adventuregames
@danielalbu Notice that Nurse Edna's red hair and Weird Ed's hunchback in DOTT originated here in concept art for Maniac Mansion, but couldn't be implemented in a Commodore 64 game due to limits on sprite design.
Namely, C64 sprites could only be 24 pixels wide, and they could only have three colors plus transparency - of which two colors had to be the same across all sprites, and only one could change per sprite! #maniacmansion#lucasarts#dayofthetentacle#dott#adventuregames
