Some new custom cars for Stunts: Alan Rotoi's second trio of muscle cars has been released! Chevrolet Camaro x Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 x AMC Javelin. Here is a presentation video showing them in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvRvO25nGRU#stunts#retrogaming#dos
Okay it's one of those, "What's peculiar here?" kinda things.
Consider the source itself. And I certainly don't mean code of any sort. 'Why' would 'They' cite Wikipedia, as good a resource as anyone might think it to be?
Why not cite yourself? Instead of citing someone else - who will merely turn right around and cite you as the ultimate source reference?
One of the people who helped archive the MS-DOS 4.0 source code, @starfrost, started writing an extensive and interesting story about the history behind 4.0 and the archived Multitasking DOS (MT-DOS) builds: https://starfrost.net/blog/001-mdos4-part-1/index.html
(the page didn't render well on mobile for me but it can be fixed by switching to "Reader view" in Firefox)
MS-DOS sources released: Finally I can peek at what was happening below the hood when I started using a computer 30+ years ago 🤭 https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS
▶️ #CTRAN: A drop-in FOSS replacement for CTRAN.EXE, the #Psion SIBO/EPOC16 OO C preprocessor on #DOS. Almost feature complete, but still work to do!
▶️ #ObjectPascal with #FreePascal: Used for CTRAN for easy development and portability. Honestly, I'm really enjoying it; it fits my needs and makes my brain happy.
▶️ RAM upgrade for 3mx to 4MB: Trying to source old DRAM isn't easy.
▶️ RAM upgrade for 5mx: Got the DRAM. Just need to solder it in place.
Some landscape renders made with Bryce 3D come by on Mastodon this week and it reminded me of the first landscape renderer I used: VistaPro.
It was was one of many #DOS programs on the "Virtual Reality Madness" compilation disc from 1993. VistaPro also came out on Amiga and Mac OS, and later Windows.
VistaPro (v1.01) didn't give you much control but the results looked stunning then, if you allowed your computer to render the highest quality image for a few hours that is.
