Happy birthday & scientific illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian (1647-1717)! Her stepdad Jacob Marrel & students trained her as an artist. She began painting insects & plants by 13. She wrote, "I spent my time investigating insects. [...] I realized that other caterpillars produced beautiful butterflies or moths, and that silkworms did the same. This led me to collect all the caterpillars I could find in order to see how they changed".

Do we have any #Danish speaking natural #science enthusiasts in the hus? I'm looking for help identifying which term in this sentence (from #entomologist J.C. Schiodte) could have been translated by "accommodation," as well as what a more direct translation of said Danish term would be.

Please boost if you have Danish contacts. Tak allesammen! 🙂

Any or folks can help me pseudo-ID a bug?
I saw it come into the bathroom from under the baseboards, there's a small gap area.
Dark colour, possibly 1cm size, small "but a large small", moved fast. It came in, stopped, and went RIGHT back into the same hole.

Now I'm fearing it's bedbugs but that seems unlikely, I've been in this place a few months now... But what could it have been?? Didn't seem like a cockroach ...
Thanks!

So many questions about these flying

  1. What are they
  2. Why do they attack me when I hum?

Do they hate my humming, or have I been gifted a superpower I have yet to harness for good?
