You can be a very agreeable, easy to get along with person in real life but if you mention you like a data structure like blockchain online there are people who will hate you.
I have yet to experience the same hate in real life.
"But Bitcoin is a great way to monetize excess renewables"
No, this was never true. If you make a capital investment in a mining rig, then you want that rig making you money 24hrs, not just when the rest of the grid is not consuming renewables.
New! Essay Review of Joshua DÁVILA (aka The Blockchain Socialist) new book
Blockchain Radicals, & launch to further discussion of blockchain left, higher ed. etc. In my Blockchain and Society
"I came across this story today about an #Ethereum Whale that was such a good trader, they timed the #ETH crash perfectly, saving themselves $5M dollars by liquidating their ETH position. Naturally, I was curious who it was! So I took a look. Here is what I found"
Periodic reminder that if you ditch the zero-trust part, if you admit that trust matters even a tiny bit, you can ditch the consensus algorithm and run the entire blockchain exercise on one shitty five year old Android phone. A firstgen raspberry pi would be overkill. Seven transactions per second wouldn’t have stretched a 486 on dial-up in 1996 and the whole stack is an embarrassment.
@bhawthorne@mhoye so it it actually practical as a #Payment system, because the people behind it actually designed it with that single goal in mind without being reliant on a single point of trust or failure.
And unlike #Bitcoin or #Ethereum one can't taint your account with illegal funds, which is so rampant since the #TornadoCash ban that even #TreasuryDept's #OFAC recognized "#Dusting" as digital equivalent of throwing feces at a restaurant's windows....
Well, my site theme provider (#Divi) just jumped on the AI bandwagon. No opt-out, typical tech-bro talk of “this is so cool” and “it will learn from your content.” Big red flags, little clarification in the TOS. Very tone deaf to everything going on with creatives right now. 😠 Seems like it is happening everywhere.
@grafphoto shoving "#AI" into everything regardless of whether or not it is even remotely useful is like shoving "#Blockchain" (regardless if #Bitcoin :bitcoin: or #Ethereum :ethereum: ) into everything:
The people who want you to believe that unelected Hunter Biden working with an energy company is an unforgivable ethics scandal for Joe Biden—also want you to ignore the $2B MBS gave to the former guy's daughter & the 4 billionaires lavishing undisclosed gifts on Justice Thomas.
Rules for thee but not for me is the right wing mantra. Don't fall for it. Organize. Activate. Vote them out.
@GreenSkyOverMe The only ones profiteering from the whole BS re: #Botcoin :bitcoin: or #Ethereum and basically all other #Cryptocurrencies as well are the infrastructure providers that than quickly shift gears:
Whether a mining operation or regular datacenter is using a big warehouse is irrelevant for the landlords and utility companies...
I wounder when some folks at @bka, @bmi & @BaFin figure out that #NFTs and #Blockchains are not only being used and abused to commit #TaxFraud, but as a means to distribute links to #CSAM.
Pretty shure they'll ban :bitcoin: #Bitcoin and #Ethereum once they find out...
Because unlike an actual bank, that'll widthhold suspicious funds and demand the customer to explain where they're from and keep them, that's not how #transactions on #Ethereum work.
The entirety of Github is apparently on big query, ready to be parsed if you have a couple thousand bucks to spare. Most Git commits contain real names and real email addresses. How is this not a privacy disaster waiting to happen?
The #prosecution of the #TornadoCash developer for checks notes writing #FLOSS is a dangerous precedent, aimed at criminalizing writing #Code - espechally #OpenSource'd Code - in general.
Also legally those cashier reciepts do come with actual usefulness as businesses can actually use them to get taxes reimbursed and account for business expenses like material purchases (i.e. a restaurant buys a pack of kitchen tissues or toilet papers and thus these are business expenses)...
Holders of the νzαяткєу "נυℓу σƒ тωєηту тняєє" will receive at least 4 unique artworks throughout the month of July. There are still 9 editions listed. These editions can be collected using #Tezos (50 ꜩ), #Ethereum (0.02157 Ξ) or Credit Card ($ 41.13) through @objktcom.
Right now this is basically a testnet with fake data but you do need to sign some paperwork in order to participate. I haven't read it yet but I assume it's just a contract saying you commit to running a full node for x months.
And yes! Our Central Bank does have a #github account.
I'm in a state of partial shock and disbelief. This whole thing feels like a mix of #SiliconValley wastefullness and cryptobroism with that #Chinese infamy for controlling its economy.
I do expect our government to reintroduce a #FinancialTransactionsTax (similar to the old CPMF) in the coming years.
But I doubt they will do it without first getting rid of large cash transactions.
