The Grok logo is a 1:1 ripoff of the Deutsche Bank logo.

Did you know there are people in this world called “designers?”

@protonmail how do you guys handle push notifications? In other words: in light of this article does Proton take any steps to protect users from this type of surveillance?

@protonmail @thenewoil the problem with proton is they use google services in the first place. Tuta does not, as an example and android people who don’t use google services still get push notifications. This should been addressed years ago but been ignored so long.

@Joel____ @protonmail @thenewoil that is great, but my point is why we need a third party app for something proton should address

The Weekend Pulse: Cruciality of Privacy and Push for Open Source Software

1/9: 🎬Welcome to our weekend thread! Today, let's discuss a topic of vital importance - Privacy. Through this thread, we'll understand why privacy is crucial and the need to transition from big corporations to open source software.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

2/9: 🛡️Privacy is a fundamental human right, often associated with freedom, democracy, and respect for individuals. Its absence can lead to unforeseen consequences, including identity theft and even a threat to national security.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

3/9 :🕸️Big corporations like , etc., have growing control over personal data. They use it to influence behavior, manipulate choice, and create vast dossiers on you, without your consent. This misuse of information raises concerns.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

4/9: 🏢These corporates accumulate this data to feed their AI algorithms, showing you tailored content based on your online activities. Designed to keep you engaged, it often leads to a filter bubble, thus reducing the diversity of what you come across online.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

5/9 : 🔒Privacy, therefore, is not about hiding things, but about protecting oneself and preserving autonomy in decision-making without external influences. It’s about controlling personal data that gets shared and who it gets shared with.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

6/9: 🔄An alternative to these corporations is open source software. These are public, collaborative projects where the code is freely available. It represents the power of a community that cares about digital rights and privacy.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

7/9: 🎯Open source tools like signal, matrix, Threema, jabber for messaging and Mastodon, Lemmy etc as a social platform are privacy-focused and do not exploit personal data for monetary benefits. Shifting towards such tools can improve the state of online privacy.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

8/9: 🌱Remember, making the switch to an open-source tool isn’t only about you. By choosing open source you're supporting a philosophy that values user’s rights, collaboration, and transparency over profits.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

9/9: 📣This weekend, take control of your personal data. Start by making a small change; use an open source tool and help forge the way for a more privacy-orientated digital world. Because privacy matters!

Stay tuned for more such discussions. Let’s grow together, valuing privacy and advocating open source. Happy weekend! 🌻‍

When sharing YouTube videos, should we share the piped link or the video itself on YouTube, letting people decide what to do with it?

Decentralize, to Signal
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

1/ Today, I'd like to talk about two (plus one haha) services that can help you keep your telephone number while also enhancing the privacy of your , , or other messaging / accounts.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

2/ The first service is JMP.chat, a Canadian or USA number that allows you to receive SMS and calls through Matrix and Jabber. It can be used on multiple devices, and multiple people can utilize it simultaneously. Payments can be made via Bitcoin.

@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

3/ The second service is silent.link, an e-sim from the UK or USA that offers data and/or voice services. It works worldwide, enabling you to have internet coverage when traveling. The support is fast and the payment options include XMR and Bitcoin Lightning. Brilliant service!

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

4/ These services provide you with a higher level of privacy and offer great flexibility. Another solution, if you only need a number for Signal, WhatsApp, or any specific service, is Juicysms. It supports payments in multiple cryptocurrencies.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

5/ Unlike free services, these numbers are only used once per service and can be reused if needed. This ensures greater security for your communications and helps maintain your privacy.

Decentralize,
@Decentralize@dt.gl avatar

6/ I hope this information helps you make your day-to-day services more private. Protect your personal information and enjoy secure communications!
