Out on the road today
I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac

As I was pulling into the QT for an iced tea tonight, a late-model, white Cadillac hearse was driving away. On the back window, a large, round #GratefulDead sticker inside a circle of fancy-font text:

Dead
Sled

Damn! Too late for a picture. In-state plates; I'll be ready next time.

Happy birthday to my favorite AUD, Ken & Judy’s 6.24.70. There’s a moment just past the first verse of Dark Star when the tectonic plates begin to groan and grind and break apart, and this stricken voice behind us says ‘Ohh GAWWWwwwwd’ because we’re at the top of the rollercoaster in an earthquake and it is on.

Good morning friends, cronies and the Mastodon curious.🙂👋 How's your Tuesday going? I stopped for creamer this morning and snagged a chocolate iced custard donut. If my doctor finds out he's going to berate me in 3-4 languages but I said f*ck it, I deserve a treat. So I'm going to have breakfast and jam some Grateful Dead.

My apprentice was on time today. 😲

Have a great day! I'm hoping for a peaceful and boring one myself. 🌞

It's not every day that a new Garcia Band SBD from the 70s turns up. This one is just a single reel, the end of set 1 from 10.27.78, towards the end of the Godchaux lineup era. To round it out I included the 3 song SBD fragment from the prior night, which includes a long, fiery Lonesome & A Long Way From Home. Thanks to all the free live music heads who keep things flowing

40 years ago tonight, the open their summer in saratoga, the start of their 1st “modern” east coast summer tour with familiar outdoor spots from the ‘80s/‘90s. long-deferred SPAC debut, originally scheduled for ’72. audience memories make it sound like a goddamn acid test for the crowd. a rainy summer day with many cheers for weather-related lyrics. https://archive.org/details/gd83-06-18.senn421.nawrocki.14411.sbeok.shnf [1/16]

In the flood of content from the TV channel coming online, I missed this absolute gem: music video for the Robert Hunter song Bone Alley!

This song was written for the but ended up on the Hunter album Liberty, tho Garcia does play guitar on it. Despite the name it doesn't appear to be about the Castro district in the 80s; the production involves Hunter in an eyepatch and Zorro outfit amidst astonishing levels of what FZ termed "cheepnis" 😭 🤣

I’m going through a seriously hardcore Grateful Dead phase. May 29th 1992 Las Vegas was the best show I personally saw but I’m freaking out over all the live shows that you can stream now that were b4 my time. Highly recommend becoming a deadhead now. Great music to make art to.

Things you did not know about the that ChatGPT is trying to convince me of:

  • Bobby regularly added French verses to „Fire on the Mountain“. Le soleil est nouveau chaque jour!
  • „Guantanamera“ was a regular part of their set lists.
  • It is impossible to know precisely what songs were played at any given show, because their set lists were just so varied!

Excellent entertainment value, at least.

46 years ago today, the played a fine one in Boston. It moves higher up my list of favorites every time I put it on. The first set is loaded with jams and the St. Stephen might be the longest they ever played. This show feels longer (in a good way) than some three-set shows from 1973.

Here's for "Road Trips, Vol. 4, No. 5: Boston Music Hall 6-09-1976 {2400x2400]. Does Mastodon still reduce large images? Let's find out!
