One thing I still do not get is why such a dangerous socket/plug system for #electricity #electricgrid #grid connections was approved and widespread. This is not cool. Especially if you have young kids.

#NEMA sockets.

How do we manage to get the ground prong on top when the plug is 220V but when it's only 110V we're playing around and making them look like bewildered little faces? 🙃

@dvshkn This shit should be a higher felony to build, possess and sell than a DIY'd machine gun because those double-cables have NO LEGITIMATE REASON TO EXIST AND ARE INHERENTLY DANGEROUS...

Also is a cringe power system to begin with!

Here's your periodic reminder about how cursed Japanese wiring is.

This is an official, standard Apple power cable that shipped with a MacBook.

@kalleboo Okay, that's even worse than [] and [UK] plugs...

    The key is in the non-reversibility.

    A reversible plug requires a double-pole power switch on the appliance, otherwise one might end up opening the Neutral side of the circuit instead of the Live. Most manufacturers don't go to this expense.

    This is why CEE 7/6 is better than CEE 7/4. It's also why 2-pin connectors have been polarized since the 1940s.

    Don't sell the U.S. short; these NEMAs beat Europlug.

    @kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

    @sassageflare @flexion I mean, if I had a house and not a condo, getting 3-Phase would be trivial as most houses in Germany have their breakers at the cellar...

    But then again standards are quite modern and 3-phase AC isn't as cringe as 's 120/240V AC "Split Phase" system...
