Anyone out there looking for a Reddit alternative? I think I'm quite liking Squabbles.io.

@mikestevens nice profile pic change for c/android!

for anyone else curious, checkout the android community over on Lemmy (accessible via KBin too!)

@android for anyone that wants to try and view it on Mastodon (although it's not formatted great)

mikestevens,

Warning

I responded to a post on Mastodon yesterday.

A copy of my response ended up in a discussion forum on Kbin.

I had no idea that would happen and discovered it by accident.

It sounds cool that both Kbin and Mastodon can both interoperate through the Fediverse.

I think people should be able to choose if their content gets copied to another site/apps.

There needs to be some obvious visual indicator that will happen so that people can make a choice.

@Otome@kbin.social

It is bit like the corporate "you should read the fine print".

Federated social media is extremely new. This isn't something that will occur to most people.

It isn't their fault.

I am going to go find the issue tracker for Mastodon to make some suggestions to the developers about warning people and giving them opt out options.

@beforewisdom yeah I think its just an advertising problem. Mastodon often gets pitched as "an alternative Twitter" without clarifying the federation stuff. On kbin we can disable looking at other site's content but not disable ours from being sent out. On the site/instance level admins can defederate and block other sites. But if you don't want federation at all, then it sounds like you aren't really into the who concept of mastodon and the fediverse in the first place.

Let’s stay off Reddit all month.

Let’s try building community together here, in spaces of freedom.

Who’s in?

scrim,

@azitopian agreed. i’m over reddit lmao, we need something better, something decentralized like this

The ease in which I quit Twitter didn’t surprise me, but how I just up and peaced out from Reddit is wild. I never was a big Twitter user (mostly lurking/consuming) but I used Reddit All. The. Time. I think having faith in the after using Mastodon has helped ease the emotional transition.
