Lonesome spring skitour today. Our group departed in Winterthur at 04:00 and started our ascend at 6:30 in Juf (2125m) to Piz Surpare (3078m). Complete snow cover above 2300m.
It was slightly warmer than forcasted and the fog disappeared later. So the snow conditions were not perfect but okay. We met nobody else on that tour today. Whilst the ascend and on the summit great views to the high mountains of Grissons, Ticino and Italy.
Skiing down switched from nice to ugly to fun. All in all better than expected.
We finished the tour with some drinks at a local restaurant.
Made it to Helags (about 110km on my route). Will take some days off to wait out a storm. Also, my body just needs it. Every now and then I got a glimpse of the sun, despite all this hard work, I feel really blessed.
1/3 Back from Davos. The Family Mountaineering of SAC Winterthur spent three days in Davos. 6 Kids from 11 to 13 years old, 5 parents and 2 SAC guides. On our first tour on Saturday we started in Sertig, ascended the southern summit of the Witihureli and skied down to Wyti. 750m ascend was a tough program for the kids, but they were super motivated and were proud of themselves.
Sortie mémorable dans les préalpes fribourgeoises.
Après une belle ascension nous avons profité d'une descente dans un couloir bien engagé et volé sur la poudre.
Today my daughter and I did a little skitour in grissons near Landquart. We travelled by train to Grüsch, walked to the cable car and took it up to 1770m. There we mounted ours skins and climbed the Wannenspitz as well as partly the Fadeuzer before we skied down to Furna. As hoped for we had some really nice firn. To my surprise we were alone most of the time.
In Furna we waited for the Postauto, relaxing in the afternoon sun and took the train back home in Schiers.
We decided to enjoy the fresh snow by crossing from one valley to the next. 550m ascend and 1000m descend 😃
We went by train and bus to our starting point at Arvenbüel above the Walensee. Due to the avalanche risk we didn't ascent the Gulmen from the south-west side. instead we did a small avalanche rescue training, before we ascended the Gulmen partly from the south (less steep) just up to 1600m. Powder fun for 200m (seen in the video).
After that small detour we proceeded to "Vordere Höchi" alongside a lot of snow shoe hikers. As soon as we went right to Häderenberg following the allowed route, the crowd has been left behind. There we enjoyed the winter forest before skiing 700m down to Stein. In the beginning wonderful powder, at the end just enough to not ruin our skis.
After some delicious cake in the local café we took the bus and train back home. As usual all connections worked very well.
1/2 Yesterday my first skitour at the canton of Ticino. We started from Ossasco and went up to the "Capanna Cristallina". Much more snow then forecasted. At least 30cm. Unfortunately for us the strong winds in the morning compressed the surface quite well.
Due to the avalanche risk (3-) and to the fact neither of us knew the region we decided to ski the same way down instead of doing the more steep options in the west (30° up to 40°+). Some other groups did it, but for us it's always better safe than sorry.
In the western Bernese Oberland!
But spring is on hold with fresh snow, cold and wind! Nice in between; a bit brutal at times… should be better from tomorrow.
