Yes, you’re correct. The Wagner Group, a private military company linked to the Kremlin, has been active in several #African countries, including the Central African Republic. This group has intervened in the affairs of these countries, providing military suppression while expanding Moscow’s influence across Africa.
#Wagner Group founded by Russian Yevgeny Prigozhin and is estimated to have some five thousand members stationed across #Africa. It has operated in several African countries since 2017, mercenary services alongside #propaganda efforts.
In the Central African Republic, for example, the group has provided paramilitary deeds in exchange for resource concessions and diplomatic support. Despite the fact that private military companies are illegal under Russian law, the Kremlin uses Wagner to forward its foreign policy interests in Africa.
In January 2023, the U.S. government designated Wagner as a significant #transnational#criminal organization.

I find the holistic approach they take towards the study of #empires quite fascinating:
