Interesting paper about the Holocene Storegga #tsunami caused by a large #submarine #landslide off the coast of Norway: it resulted in run-up heights of up to 3–6 m around mainland UK & coincided with a large decline in the Mesolithic population in N. Britain.

Tsunamis are giant waves caused by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea. Out in the depths of the ocean, tsunami waves do not dramatically increase in height. But as the waves travel inland, they build up to higher and higher heights as the depth of the ocean decreases.

    This is how NHK Radio 2 went off, via JP1ODJ Saitama🗾 tuned to 873 kHz rather than local 693. Carrier still seems to be on there, although 828 was off at that moment.

    We've contacted him again. everything is fine.
    In , , they had forecasted a 3m tide but arrived only 80cm.
    Alert will remain whole night, but unless other quakes, everything should be fine.
