Ok, Julius, genug edgy im Internet gewesen, jetzt hör mal lieber wieder beim Matheunterricht zu.

Tja, macht halt niemand was.

but I do think there's better alternatives to universal healthcare where standards usually drop for everybody.

Views for Tucker Carlson’s new Twitter show have dropped 86 percent since its launch (deadstate.org)

His first show brought in over 26 million “video views,” which is a Twitter metric that records a view as anyone who watches a video for more than 2 seconds. While the metric’s reliability has been questioned, it has nevertheless declined significantly since the show’s launch, with Carlson’s most recent show only...

Beau is awesome, cant recommend his videos enough!

Should we be using hashtags and mentions more?

Edited below. I imagine many of us are here from reddit, where hashtags weren't really a thing and in many places mentions were actively discouraged (/r/politics I'm looking at you). However, since everything we post or comment on kbin (and lemmy) has the potential of getting federated on a mastodon server, which leans heavily...

Several ways. Obviously you can simply check the popularity of certain hashtags yourself by searching them. Secondly, theres also hashtag suggestions, so if i were to write "" and is the first one, its probably the most popular one. Lastly, you just use 2-3 hashtags. So for example.

Its not a perfect system that will sort every post perfectly, but its an open and flexible system.

OpenAI says it could ‘cease operating’ in the EU if it can’t comply with future regulation (www.theverge.com)

In addition to the possible business threat, forcing OpenAI to identify its use of copyrighted data would expose the company to potential lawsuits. Generative AI systems like ChatGPT and DALL-E are trained using large amounts of data scraped from the web, much of it copyright protected. When companies disclose these data sources...

Exactly this. I hate copyright as much as the next person and find it funny when corporate meddling leads to them fighting each other, but both sides of this leads to shitty precedent. While copyright enforcement already is a shitty precedent, its something we can fight. AI companies laundering massive amounts of data without having to hold up copyright could possibly lead to them also not having to abide to privacy laws in the future with similar arguments. Correct me if im wrong.

and that keeping information like training methods and data sources secret was necessary to stop its work being copied by rivals.

Cant have others copying stuff that you have painstakingly copied yourself.

00,

Not entirely. I do think that if copyright holders have an argument against AI data scraping, privacy watchdogs will have one as well. But if copyright holders don't have one, the position of privacy watchdogs will be weaker as well. Mind you, I'm not arguing about legality, I'm fully aware that those are two very different things from a legal perspective. Im arguing from a perspective of policy narratives.

A great mobile app for free music

I recently got into the piracy community, and discovered a great open source app for Android that allows you to stream music for free from YouTube music! It’s called ViMusic and it’s one of the best free music apps imo. It has a beautiful and customizable interface and it actually has a music recommendation algorithm which...

I simply dont see how the fediverse would gain from this. The core of my argument remains that Meta doesnt do things "just because" or because they are "interested" in activitypub. There is no altruism behind this, far from it. And when Meta gains, we loose.

What you call spam others may call content.

Im not stopping anyone from using whatever social media they want, I simply dont want my social media filled with influencer spam, brand social media and grifting. And no, this is not hypocritical, because this:

I believe kbin doesn't have it yet, but some fediverse platforms offer the option to block a particular instance from your feed without limiting everyone else.

Is simply a pipe dream. Sure, Twitter allows you to only interact with people you want to on a superficial level, but in reality every bigger tweet you look at will be filled with blue checkmark people selling NFT boner pills or something. And no, blocking an instance wont fix the problem, only make it slightly better. Grifters arent known for respecting the "do not talk to me about unsolicited ads" and other fediverse servers will just become a new grifting target until all you do is block people.

I think the question "why would anyone sign up if they can just use Threads" would answer itself if you don't assume everyone shares your preference.

I made the choice to learn about federation. This isnt me being elitist, federated social media simply is harder to understand. But a lot of people have no interest or time to learn about it, which is completely fine. So obviously they are going to stay at the centralized social media platform where content is served through a laser focus target tested algorithm, which i cant blame them for.

Honestly, Meta never has good intentions so i dont really see a reason to defend my position. If you want to convince me about why we should federate with Meta, make some good arguments.
