bottom left: HRT -9 months
bottom right: HRT +1 day
top: HRT +10 months

angles, soft lighting, and better skill at doing my makeup are all doing a lot of the lifting in the most recent selfie. buuuut the hormones and laser are also working their magic, both within and without 💕

    are any UK-based trans mascs after a suit?

    i'm getting rid of a slim-fit, grey 2-piece from Next with a nice floral lining. only worn a handful of times to some weddings in 2022 and it's still in great condition. the jacket is a size 36R and the trousers 32R. free to a good home, if you're willing to cover postage!

    i keep seeing people online render "nowadays" as "nowerdays" which the prescriptivist in me hates, but the descriptivist absolutely adores. it's like they're saying days which are "more now"

    it also implies the existence of nowestdays, which is a fun thought

    i was told last night that i am "the best female guitarist i've ever seen" by a lovely (and admittedly quite drunk) old man

    i know i'm a good player and (toot toot) i get that kind of thing semi-regularly. but the "female" qualifier was new, and it gave me all sorts of complicated feelings

    on the one hand, i didn't feel like i was remotely close to passing last night, so to be referred to as a woman by default was very gratifying

    on the other hand, i very much dislike being confronted with the idea that female guitarists are somehow a separate category from just... guitarists

    like, setting aside the unnecessary element of competition to the compliment (unfortunately common from a certain subset of punter), why the hell does my skill need qualifying with respect to my gender? would i have played any differently or better were i a man? is my talent and dedication to my art not as valid as any man's? am i only a good player "for a woman"?

    in a very "do more things that scare you" kind of way, i went and did one of those boudoir photoshoot things today. utterly terrifying initially but i came away feeling super sexy and confident. i'm so impressed with the makeup job they did, i should have been taking notes of products and methods 💀

    so by way of an update: i got to see the actual photos today, and some of them were pretty overwhelming. it's difficult to overstate just how much euphoria i was feeling flicking through them. i've been struggling a lot with my body image lately and to see myself looking like an honest-to-Friggr pin-up kind of short circuited my brain a little 🫠

    finally got a hairdryer with a diffuser and oh my god it is such an upgrade to the curly hair routine

    Last night I got drunk and texted my ex. It was a super good idea and it went really well. She apologized for how things ended and said that she loved me and wanted me back. Then everyone in the bar clapped and bought me drinks and threw money at me and told me how pretty and smart I am

    i feel your pain. once at a gig i was explaining the Tom Morello influence on our trumpet player's sound, and the guy i was talking to looked utterly blank. when i said that was the guitar player from Rage Against the Machine, he said "oh yeah, my step-mum is really into them" 💀

    @kaylee i guess seeing one of them try to ask our bass player mid-song whether i like women or not, and include the ✌️👅 gesture was pretty funny!
    but that was very much tempered by the fact that several times before that she pointed to my boobs, pointed to the pride flag hanging off my guitar, and then waggled her eyebrows at me 💀

    i have been considered buying a SAD lamp, but as someone who loves and really benefits from creative work maybe building something is the way to go! it's as good a reason as any to start going to my local hackspace 😁
