#Sony's Ryan: "I’m pretty sure we will continue to see CoD on PlayStation for many years to come. I’m not complacent and I’d rather this hasn’t happened but we’ll be OK, more than OK.”
@AAKL@arstechnica@KyleOrl Well he knows pulling a multi platform game with a fan base on all the platforms would be stupid. You’d be leaving a lot of money on the table as some folks only have one, so they can’t or won’t shell out 5-600ish for a second console to play one game. Yeah it gets them some other XB only games but MS hasn’t been dropping killer must have games much in years.
@AAKL@Forbes@paultassirss Never really, Nintendo doesn’t let Mario wander. Sega only ported sonic when they stopped doing hardware. Master Chief afaik has never gone on another system. Sony has allowed Spyro and Crash on a few others but I’m not sure it’s their studios. But they certainly didn’t share The recent Spider-man’s or Horizon’s. It’s a crazy argument.
@AAKL@Forbes@paultassirss@arstechnica@KyleOrl Oh good grief. Would they have Activision or even subset blizzard make them an exclusive….most likely. Would they tank a cash cow like the next diablo or CoD to Xbox/PC only….not unless they want rabid fans with pitchforks storming the place along with losing a ton of cash. It would be stupid.
@AAKL@verge@jaypeters I prefer the John Oliver post rule, but I suppose that is one way to stick it to Reddit. Not sure though how completely destroying the community will help in the long run. Technically Reddit does allow the content, so I suppose their next move will be banning nsfw content.
@AAKL@verge@jaypeters Yep, I figured it’d be a mass nsfw ban or they’d boot mods even if it took time to replace them. That’s hitting them hard in the wallet and introducing potential extra liability.
@AAKL@jannem yeah, if it was scheduled a notice a couple days early would have been nice. Or a generic we’re doing maintenance page to hit trying to get to the site.
Not surprising, but the way this reads is that Jim Ryan successfully hoodwinked the UK CMA. #ActivisionBlizzard#Microsoft
"Even if the merger were to cause every PlayStation owner that played COD for as little as two hours per month to buy an Xbox--a wildly implausible scenario--PlayStation would still remain the console leader [...] [It] would at most put a small dent in [PlayStation's] massive lead."
@AAKL Well to be honest, they have a big lead going in from last gen (where lets be fair MS basically shot themselves in the foot at that E3 presentation). MS has since done little on the first party must buys, but instead has focused on GamePass and the Cloud. Sony meanwhile has more or less just kept dropping big hits that are exclusive. MS is coming back to start to add the unique titles, but Sony likely won’t lose the lead till at least the next gen. Plus Sony has the talent to compete
@AAKL Oh he was totally blowing it out of proportion and made it sounds like the end of the world if the merger happened. Which it wouldn’t be. Sure there’d be some that would choose an xbox next purchase, but When I think actually debating on system to get or get first I’m comparing the lineup of Halo, Gears, etc vs Horizon, GoW, etc. Also as the article states, not all PS owners play or even own CoD. Should focus on generating a legit new or existing IP competitor. They got the skills.
#Reddit is tarnishing itself the way #Twitter did. It will never come out of this mess the same. But the CEO doesn't seem to understand the scope of the long-term damage he is causing.
@AAKL@WIRED He has a gun to his head. High interest rates. No more free money. Be profitable or be dead. The same thing driving Twitter. When you can borrow below inflation you can do all sorts of stupid things. When interest rates rise, the bill comes due.
@AAKL@marketwatch I do think there could be objective downsides but I don't think that most of these are unique to #VisionPro, or even exacerbated by it. Other reasons seem very personal to the writer (a preference for physical v. digital, Tech addiction? Looks ridiculous?)
But I would be interested in the expected contribution to bottom lines, and how it feels after longer term sessions and long-term use.
@AAKL@PCMag No, subs open=money flowing so they were bound to replace and get them back open. Personally the John Oliver thing cracks me up (I love Last Week Tonight and hope post WGA strike he spends a minute or too talking about suddenly getting thrown into the reddit saga lol).
@AAKL@techradar While I’m sure it is impressive, it is too expensive with not a lot of must have features. Plus headset typically aren’t comfortable wearing for extended time frames.
Oh the 93 million hours played? I mean if they're counting every single platform it's been released on, and as many people getting as sweaty as they claim in the official Discord, I don't find it at all surprising.
@AAKL@betanews@iandbarker is there a way to get updated Android phones without having to buy overpriced Pixel phones? If i have to spend 500e i'd go with Apple
Not Apple's or any other's. You need your senses about you on a flight. And have we even discussed whether these headsets can be easily hacked, or not?
@AAKL@Forbes Oh someone would figure a way out to hack it. At the minimum I could see a spree of something like the airdrop fiasco. But I wouldn’t want to advertise I had $3500ish bucks to blow on a fancy headset to the entire plane. A tablet or laptop can be wrote off as more common place or work provided these days. That just puts a target on you IMO on a plane.
@AAKL@Forbes good point. It would need testing…course they’ve been reluctant on testing 5g….I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t not be a high priority to test.
@jonnyevans@ppb1701 Is Apple getting into gaming, outside of Arcade? Or more precisely, is it taking Arcade to a larger demographic? Unity was mentioned once during the developer conference, but that was it. Meanwhile, the Proton kit lets Mac users run Windows games. Sonny recently discovered that PC gaming is lucrative. I wonder if Apple is headed that way by breaking down the barriers.
@AAKL@WSJ They haven’t. So in affect we are seeing them try bundling, ad supported tiers, dumping content to write off or rent the rights elsewhere, etc etc. My guess is some of them will fail and go back to licensing content only or be gobbled up into super streaming platforms until a relative equilibrium is reached that people will tend to hold on to the subscriptions.
@AAKL@WSJ yep. They raise the bundle prices about as frequently as the main service prices. Or the bundle is with the ad tier or limited content tier and you discover you need to pay more to see what you want….which may or may not be available in the bundle you just signed up for.
@AAKL Oh, I understand the source of the complaint, but if they believed Cook on the China issue then they would have held and/or bought Apple and clearly profited from the experience.
