the anti-fluoride people are back... I mean, if you like anti-vax stuff why not? It's the same swindle.
"precious bodily fluids" and all that.
I hate the taste of mint so I'm always looking for toothpaste that tastes better... I was horrified to discover that if you go of the beaten path with toothpaste there are 100s of brands with "no fluoride" which only a tiny number of people really need... Be careful if you use a "crunchy" brand ... fluoride is amazing.
@futurebird I stopped using a tooth powder that I otherwise quite liked when I found out it didn't contain fluoride. It's often missing in "organic" brands because apparently that target demographic believes fluoride is bad. Another thing to look out for, btw, because you mention kids' toothpaste, is how abrasive a toothpaste is. Many common brands are very abrasive which you don't need unless you smoke and want white teeth.
"Then luck-bringing Hermes received him and took him in his arms: very glad in his heart was the god. And he went quickly to the abodes of the deathless gods, carrying his son wrapped in warm skins of mountain hares, and set him down beside Zeus and showed him to the rest of the gods. Then all the immortals were glad in heart and Dionysos Bakkheios in especial; and they called the boy Pan because he delighted all their hearts."
Born of Rhea, last of her children
A young god from the womb of an eldeer
Fathered by Kronos, king of the heavens
Of an era long gone now
Destined to be consumed were you
For your father feared the future
Not knowing he was the cause
Of his very own demise
Raised on Crete, that sacred land
Where spirits of the land were tasked with you
Fed the milk of Amaltheia, the goat
And kept hidden by the songs of the Kouretes
Destiny was no match for your mother saved you
A stone she gave your hungry father
Who subsumed it into himself
As he would have done to you
A young and powerful god you were
Told tales of your father’s guilt
And your mothers desperate gamble
You grew to beauteous godhood
Destiny once more exerted her power
You rose to high Olympus
And to your father presented yourself
A cupbearer to serve him as he ruled
A scheming god, wise and patient
A cup you prepared for your father
Herbs and spices in his beloved wine
To induce in him a need to set off your plans
Destiny spun its threads
And into the tapestry of life set your story
As god after god was born anew
From the father’s body expelled
With divine power and righteous anger
The children went to war with their father
From the depths others released
To fight for you in this holy time
Destiny wove your righteous actions into fate
The great mother advised you and yours
Thunder was forged for you
To win this holy war in the heavenly realm
The war won you took a wife
And betrayed the children of Earth
Whose weapons helped your cause
And into the dark pits did you send them
So Destiny once more turned its spindle
The threads once more she wove into life
A new perophecy, a new fate
One we pray will not come to pass
And so you rule, O Heavenly Zeus
God of the mountain peaks
Stirring the clouds to storming
Bearer of the thunder that none yet dare face
@julesbl@per_sonne@ben The Tragedy of the Commons has been exposed as not being a real thing by Elinor Ostrom. There are countless examples of common goods from history as well as a few contemporary ones. Gotta agree with Jules, the tragedy is when some wealthy shit steals or exploits a common good for their own gain and there are no rules enforced to nip that kind of behaviour in the bud.
Something that massively annoys me in TV and movies is when someone kisses a cis dude for like 5 seconds, slides their hand down his pants, then goes “oh... nothing’s happening?”
Of COURSE nothing’s happening? His dick is not a light switch.
TFW you excitedly save an image of a vase painting of Dionysos only to realise you've already had that image in your collection for a year. I have a normal amount of Dionysos pictures.
@ralph_himself I will admit that the reason I realised it is that Nike is in the painting with Dionysos and when I typed the file name I saw I had named another file in pretty much the same way and found that it was the same picture. So yay for a (somewhat) consistent file naming system? 😄
@dyani Something really quick, easy, and cheap is porridge or similar kinds of boiled grain. Just bring milk or water or broth to a boil, add grain of choice (rice, millet, oats, semolina, corn...) and some honey or herbs to taste and let it sit for a moment. Done. Filling and tasty. Fairly healthy.
For something more indulgent, I get a bag of frozen bami goreng (not cheap).
Aphrodite / Demeter #WIP. I am pleased with this dialogue.
"I bow to no husband and I still take my pleasure with men and I get nothing."
"How about you forget about gods and men and take your pleasure with a goddess instead?" Aphrodite purred.
A cute, pink blush crept over Demeter's cheeks.
"Is… is that an invitation?" she asked.
Aphrodite gave her a wet kiss on the lips.
"Do you need one?"
@CatFoxBirdLady There is! It's a snipped of a 4000 word wlw story I #amEditing that is going to be published on my website soon. $1 to unlock, $10 to get a hot illustration by my illustrator Sinita to go with it (sneak peek below) 🔥
Since @aurochs asked if there are "merwomen" with human genitals, this is the closest image that I personally know of: a Nereid swimming right behind the chariot of Neptunus / Poseidon.
Maybe the @phistorians know any art of female tritones?
@Drub Papaya is an acquired taste for sure 😄
I only liked it when I had some in Costa Rica where they were fresh and didn't have to survive the transport to Europe. But yeah, somebody's socks sounds about right 😂
It's the Day of Hermes aka Mercurius Day aka #Wednesday! 🐏
#MerMay is upon us and I'm starting out with a vase painting of #Hermes with the sea goddess Thetis, leader of the fifty daughters of Nereus & mother of Achilles. In the scene shown, she might be on her way to Olympos, summoned by Zeus to persuade #Achilles to return Hektor's body.
🏛 Hermes following #Thetis in her chariot, Terracotta lekythos ca 500 BCE
The barbarian goddess gave her a piercing look.
"You are a goddess of love, just like me."
Aphrodite raised her eyebrows.
"Love? Really? Don't get me wrong but your demeanour is as abrasive as that of warlike Ares."
"War is also my realm. But not yours."
Aphrodite pursed her lips.
"No. I end wars," she said, "I conquer War."
