Canadian. Local paper occasionally publishes pieces I write about climate, energy, and Passive House. Also interested in disability issues, for reasons. Nordic skier who played Rugby. Happiest out skiing on a sunny and cold mid-February day.

Went in to a sports store today and they have already started their seasonal change over. Downhill skis were on display. Realistically it's five months until there is enough snow on area ski hills to contemplate downhill skiing.

I just moved a ton of hay. (Literally a ton. My partner and I just put about 2 tons of hay into the barn, and I did half). We realized about 4pm that the weather forecast for tomorrow had decided that today was hay day.

We have a hay-share where our neighbour cuts and bales it all, and takes 2/3 as payment, then we get the rest (though he ends up buying most of that from us - cows eat way more hay than goats).

Very glad my goats are already all set for food this winter!

A tractor with a bunch of hay bales balanced on a mower attachment (because we don't have a cart for it), and in the background there is a barn with the upper story door open and a hay elevator lifting bales inside. (A hay elevator is a simple metal ladder-looking thing with a moving chain on it attached to an electric motor)
Inside the loft of my barn, which is wooden and has lots of exposed beams, many bales of hay neatly stacked (and lots of hay scattered around on the floor).

@sundogplanets I have fond memories of stacking hay wagons as a young teenager.

That is quite the wagon you have there. : )

Sad day. A lovely grocery store is shutting after fifty years. Always had great fresh fruit and vegetables.

Should we start a pool on how long it will take for to get enshittified?

My money is on 2 years.

@ainmosni Yeah, I'm surprised at the willingness to migrate there. Twitter under HWSNBeNamed should be enough of a cautionary lesson.

Do you route your internal traffic through your firewall rules and policies?

If not, you are assuming a LOT of things about a LOT of things :)

I have worked for gas and bell construction contractors so I have worked with operating engineers who have cut deep.

@geerlingguy Having invested time and (someone else's) money in training on RHEL and Ansible out of necessity as it is the enterprise ecosystem I have to work in I am pretty disappointed with Red Hat's actions.

Seems like they are blowing up a good thing. Enshittification is the right term for it. Having worked within another enterprise ecosystem dominated with IBM product I am not surprised though.

I urge you all to read this article, it has so much in it: the intersection of climate and infrastructure changes; the effects of on people; how they feel (and are) abandoned by the state; and tbeir attempts and strategies to deal with repeated themselves, eg thinking of buying a dinghy
