How might one turn bad faith on its head to help rather than harm?

In thinking on the classic Sartre quote concerning the folly of arguing with anti-Semites as if they’re arguing in good faith, as well as the Swift quote regarding reasoning being unable to correct an ill opinion one didn’t reason themselves into…It’s left me thinking that perhaps a way to alter the path of those astray...

In psychiatry it’s well-known practice to never argue with delusions. Every argument about it gives their brain more and more practice defending that position. Instead, you just change the subject to something completely unrelated but reality-based, ideally something that reinforces their positive/supportive social connections and interactions. So for example they start talking about their family being replaced with lizard people or whatever but you remember you saw them really invested in the game yesterday so you start asking who won, what was the final score, who’s playing next week, do they think that’s a good team, what players do they have this season, etc.

You’re also usually simultaneously trying to get them full of mood stabilizers and antipsychotics to reduce their emotional inflammation enough that they’ll stop seeing and hearing things consistent with the delusions. As long as you can keep the delusions from cementing too much while they’re still psychotic they can usually return to interacting normally once they’re not seeing and hearing weird shit (and other sensory experiences like tactile, olfactory, and somatic hallucinations).

Honest question because I know people often lack the patience for one reason or another but you know they have to be trained to use a scratching post or other designated scratching object right? No shame or pressure but I can give you tips.

I can tell you as a nurse your body should move and shift in your sleep anyway to avoid wearing holes in your butt, and needing to face a specific direction feels to me like it would interfere with that natural defense mechanism against pressure ulcers.

This is a psychiatric issue, just not one that requires inpatient care.

Also we don’t discuss palliative care enough as a society eg: you are welcome to refuse treatment and suffer then die of your multiple chronic illnesses, but you will be much more comfortable doing it at home. I’m a DNR before the age of 30 for this exact reason: I wouldn’t do chemo or transplants or any of that either: just let me glide quietly into that good night on a slip-n-slide of benzos and opiates.

I agree with the MD that discharge is the best option. The bed will be much better suited to a patient that is able to perceive inpatient care as beneficial, because this man clearly does not.

Funny story; the DNR was actually a side choice. The main reason I got the advance directive filled out was to bar my family from trying to regain control of me if I an incapacitated. They’re also barred from visiting, or really even knowing I’m in the hospital. I also added the worst doctor I’ve ever worked with to the FUCK NO list cuz hey, while I’m here…

I literally just went on my state website, printed it off and filled it out, then made a doctors appointment and went over it with the social worker, and got it signed and filed.

I believe it’s OFADE20K? Whatever StableHorde comes with by default. I mostly use artbot as my gui. And no, those are completely just generated from the controlmaps, no additional img2img or even any photoshopping.

A big part of this project is finding standardized prompts that adequately reference the segmentation categories yet will adapt to the styles I’m applying smoothly. And finding styles that will transfer well to multiple cards!

Haven’t done his net yet! And not really I’ve been googling as I go myself! I really do recommend stablehorde though. In the midst of complaints about art theft, and the ethics of how the data sets were obtained, it’s important to me that a quality public resource be created and maintained. That cat is already out of its bag, the least we can do at this point is not privatize it.

They’re two data sets with categories that correspond to colors, but it’s hard to fit some things into those categories, and they have slightly different categories, and some have items the other doesn’t.

One time my parents tried to tell me they shouldn’t have to pay for insulin for “fat people” and the nurse educator in me went on a fifteen minute rant about how insulin dependent diabetics are actually the ones who get it genetically in childhood and finished the rant by asking why they’re advocating for the deaths of impoverished children. Not that fat people deserve to die or be sick either but come ON if you’re not willing to do the research yourself then just listen to what the experts say? Everybody in America these days wants to do 0 research and just walk out into the world to convince people that lavender oil will cure their cancer.

I’ve traveled with my intellectually disabled sister before. If you’re traveling with anyone with a major disability of any kind but similar severity, I highly recommend you pack disposable gloves and wet wipes, and possibly a small emergency snack (especially if they have diabetes, my sister will just beat the shit out of you if she gets too hungry, some people might die or some shit).

I grew up Christian and knowing that the Romans associated Jesus with Dionysus is the one thing that might take me back to Christianity. That said, it would be pretty hard to find a church that is willing to participate in a pagan-christian bacchanalia. But c’mon, who doesn’t want to throw parties that are a “murderous instrument of conspiracy against the state” according to their biggest contemporary critic? Also let’s be real, by all known accounts Jesus loved booze and prostitutes, and returning to its roots is the only thing that can save Christianity.
