Of course they learned a lesson! Only about a million people died in the US and the rich got over $1 trillion richer, so this time they’ll let 10 million die so the rich can get $10 trillion richer!
As an American that strongly advocates for direct action, this depresses me (further). If taking to the streets still doesn’t get anything done, what hope is there? Any progress our government makes from within the system is so incrementally small that it’s not going to prevent our grandchildren surviving the world that capitalist-driven climate change is creating, and that’s even if all progress doesn’t get completely undone the instant the Republicans get the presidency again (the Democrats have not had two consecutive presidents since 1964, and that was due to JFK’s assassination. There hasn’t been two consecutive elected Democrats since 18-fucking-56).
It’s easy not to trust a system associated with charging you $500 for Tylenol. Much easier (and occasionally even safer) to just smell some lavender and hope that helps. Go to an ED and you could just die of a stroke or heart attack in the waiting room or even get run over by somebody who died of a heart attack while driving...
I think you have the terrible take. Untrained people shouldn’t be self-diagnosing based on hearing a list of symptoms, the brain is too good at tricking itself and it is too easy to even give yourself symptoms you don’t have.
And I don’t expect any one doctor to know of every treatment that exists for every illness, because that’s what collaborative knowledge bases are for. A carefully moderated medical Wikipedia that can be contributed to by doctors and researchers.
But all of this wouldn’t make the pharmesutical companies as much money as peddling to hypochondriacs so instead we have ads.
The idea (or my opinion at least) is we start at the top, working our way down the high score list. After the first few, hopefully the rest come to their senses and voluntarily stop being scum.
Fun sentiment but there’s no way to exist without participating in capitalism. My smart phone may be made with slave labor but it’s not like there are alternatives. Even if there were they’d be unaffordable.
If you can’t see the massive difference between a handful of billionaires causing the suffering in the world to become richer, and the hundreds of millions of people who are just participating in capitalism because there’s no other choice, then there’s no point in talking to you.
Give it a few years. Maybe announce the developer, then go silent for years (not two decades though) while they work on it quietly. Don’t hype it up, don’t ask the devs for press updates. Let the massive success of BG3 fade a little from recent memory so the new developers can do their own thing with it without having to deal with the pressure of following BG3.
The worst thing they could do is push for BG4 too quickly.
I’m finally taking meds for my ADHD and while I don’t feel like I can control what I focus on, it does seem to help in my ability to suppress distracting thoughts, especially when around others. I still have to put myself in situations where distractions are less likely to happen in order to get stuff done, but it does feel easier.
So like everything else, not a silver bullet but it does help. However I skipped a day and felt like shit; is withdrawal a thing?
In regards to a solution, populations drop voluntarily when a certain standard of living is reached. I doubt the people expressing this would advocate taking care of the poor to speed up the process of natural population decline.
I think there are too many humans.
I advocate taking care of the poor, globally, to speed up the process of natural population decline.
I even have a (general) plan. Promote sexual education, make contraceptives free and easily available, eat the rich. The global side is harder; it’s not like dropping a bunch of condoms on India and China will do anything. But it all starts with education and the elimination of the owner class.
We can’t even ditch the electoral college that regularly thumbs its nose at the popular vote, how do you think we’ll get ranked choice to become the federal norm in 4 years?
Looking at the past 40ish years, no party has ever held the presidential office for two consecutive candidates (not terms, candidates), so we’re pretty much guaranteed a Republican president in 2028 even if Biden wins 2024. And even though Trump will be rotting in a prison (or grave) by then, the Republican candidate will be just as evil, if maybe more eloquent about it.
Why do you always assume we have to be convinced he’s not as bad as Trump? That’s obvious.
What unconvinced voters need to be given isn’t fear “vote for us or the worse guy wins!”, it’s hope. What is the Biden administration doing to improve the lives of the working class? Not just saying, but accomplishing? There are some small wins they’ve done, even if they’re a far cry from what was promised in 2020. Focus on that. The few people that got or are getting student loan forgiveness. The baby steps towards making medicine affordable. The acknowledgement that man-made climate change is real.
Colorado’s Democratic-controlled House on Sunday passed a bill that would ban the sale and transfer of semiautomatic firearms, a major step for the legislation after roughly the same bill was swiftly killed by Democrats last year....
Like the “End Hedge fund ownership of residential properties” bill that is just a tax on hedge funds that own over 100 residences, a tax that they will happily pass on to their tenants (after adding another 25% on top to cover the emotional cost of being taxed by the evil government!).
Laws don’t have teeth in this country because they are always designed to only punish the poor.
I would prefer much stronger gun control laws and I still agree with you. There are better fights to fight and more likely to win. This feels like empty posturing in an election year.
