Former Post Office executive gave ‘false’ evidence at high court, inquiry hears

Angela van den Bogerd questioned over 2018 testimony about remote access to Horizon IT system

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/apr/25/former-post-office-executive-gave-false-evidence-at-high-court-inquiry-hears

(Did she perjure herself in the High Court under oath in 2018? Because that's what this report indicates to me.)

Fifty years ago today, the Carnation Revolution took place in Portugal.

The event managed to overthrow the authoritarian regime, led to the restoration of democracy and built the democratic Portugal we know today.

JHB: "You would leave asylum seekers to drown in the channel?"

Ben Habib: "Absolutely"

JHB: "That is not a policy that a civilised country should endorse"

BH: "Why is that uncivilised?"

JHB: "Because we don't leave people to drown.. I don't want these people here, but I wouldn't leave them to drown.. I don't think anyone in the border force or Royal Navy that would do that"

Not a good look when you've got Marco bloody Rubio defending a Democrat President against charges of supporting genocide by his own citizens.
from C-SPAN:
"Marco Rubio claims to have gotten a text telling him that Jews are preparing to flee the USA because they're so endangered by the "riots" allegedly engulfing the Nation's cities. Rubio says these "mobs" want to "destroy America," and he defends Biden from chants of "Genocide Joe""

BashStKid,
@BashStKid@mastodon.online avatar

@BlippyTheWonderSlug @fkamiah17 Hi there.
The ‘no reason’ was directed at the Welsh govt undoing their own successful road safety schemes for no reason rather than budget limits or similar.
We’re used to ‘we haven’t got the money so will do a dumb thing’, now we’re getting ‘going to agree with Sauron and do a completely avoidable dumb thing’
The 20mph changes have been good for everyone, including car drivers, but that doesn’t stop rightwing ranting about Muh Freedoms.

@fkamiah17 Yes, I didn’t put that very well. I was thinking more that with the fm on the back foot, Senedd will be full of Tories trying to roll back old policies and block new ones as Gething will be permanently on the defensive. Hence we’ll all suffer.

BashStKid,

@fulelo Sadly this will become a lot more common, as rainfall becomes more intense and frequent, on land where the water runoff has nothing to slow it down.
And it will be right next to the towns and farms that caused the deforestation or catchment retention in the first place.

This is just as much a problem in Europe where the upland soil is washing away, it’s just less visible than a great big ravine developing.
