I saw two Green Herons this morning in Van Cortlandt Park and found that they're building a nest!

A tangle of small twigs in tree branches and a blurry view of a Green Heron above the tangle. This tangle is a nest.

The Wood Ducklings are growing! I was glad to see all four of them just after I saw a male Wood Duck get pulled into the water, likely by a snapping turtle.

Tonight I FINALLY saw a Green Heron! I was on my way home from checking on the Killdeer and I stopped at Van Cortlandt Park (Bronx, NY, USA) where I found my favorite bird.

Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, NY was very, very loud with birdsong this morning. There was even a rare Yellow-throated Warbler high in an oak tree. But I didn't get many photos of birds.

Last night I went to BJs and bought a 5-lb bag of peanuts so maybe one day I'll be able to bribe one of two leucistic melanistic grey squirrels to let me take their photos. But I didn't see either of them this morning.

It is. I was talking to another birder this morning and he said it was his least fav place to bird because there's nothing there. I think he's not looking hard enough. There's so much to see!

This squirrel child has the soul of an adventurer! I regret to inform you that he fell into the wheelbarrow full of rain water 😳 Don’t worry, he is fine - there was a roll of chicken wire in there to climb out on. Perhaps a valuable lesson learned? It doesn’t pay to be TOO adventurous!

Squirrel is now in a wooden planter that has some glass wear stored in it. He was just about to snack on my lavender but thought better of it. This was a minute before taking the plunge in the wheelbarrow

I was very happy to see that all four Wood Ducklings are still with their mother. She's taking really good care of them. Today she scolded Red-winged Blackbirds who were fighting near her babies.

Four small Wood Ducklings are floating in water, nibbling on whatever they find. These ducks are brown poofs with yellow faces and black lines behind their eyes. They do have some white spots on their backs.

I noticed this on my morning walk around the reservoir. I'm not sure if it's new or I just didn't notice it in the six months I've been walking around the reservoir. Some night I'm going to need to pass by it at dusk.
