Hey folks we are now live with more of Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager! Baldur's Gate 3 has nothing on this game as we try and escape the clutches of some very hungry Mind Flayers! https://twitch.tv/bogusmeatfactory

Is there a dreamcast emulator out there that allows you to play the game AND also play the VMU mini-games and reconnect them to the game much like Dolphin does for the GBA Advanced Link Cable?

What did I get done today?

I did some dishes
I did some laundry
I took all our old dvds and cds and organized them in a binder (sorry. Not keeping the cases).

That's better than nothing!

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@lunarloony I wouldn't mind going all digital but my wife is insistent on keeping her childhood cds and she doesn't have much from her childhood. I can't deny her that.

Vague Patch Notes: The problem with forever adding classes to MMOs
🔗 https://massivelyop.com/2024/05/09/vague-patch-notes-the-problem-with-forever-adding-classes-to-mmos

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@massivelyop I get very frustrated when people expect MMO expansions to always include new races/classes. Unless the game had them conceived from the start, they always feel unbalanced, tacked on or don't fit with the world at large.

Expansions should be about new discoveries, a change in world events or new features that fit within the broad scope of the world. I don't know... I feel old, but MMOs just don't feel like virtual worlds because of this modern design philosophy.

On Monday, I watched 3 adults separately Google what the name is for a flock of turkeys and had to hold back cackling when it gave each of them a completely different answer. I can't believe how fucked search engines have become.

Anyone anything good at the moment? I'm still on my PSP kick playing MGS Peace Walker which I think is going to keep me busy for a while. Especially as I'm not great at it 😶.

So happy I picked up a PSP again though. Such a fun console. I maaayyy have also bought Silent Hill Origins. I think that's probably all the games that I definitely want for it, but any suggestions of hidden gems that I should look out for?

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@Hundstrasse the PSP is a system I have almost zero knowledge of and is easily the biggest gap! I really need to pick one up to play!

Right now I'm juggling two games. Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 2 and the DOS RPG Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager, both I'm really enjoying for very different reasons.

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@Hundstrasse The dialog and voice acting is top notch. It has a very rich world with a lot of lore that is fun to uncover. It is a big of a tangled mystery but intentionally so and it has been a fun driving force to complete the game and figure it out.

They play very much like a zelda style game, with a heavy emphasis on puzzle solving. Soul reaver 2 is a bit more linear compared to 1 and oddly hasn't had any boss fights, but that hasn't been a detriment honestly.

Game idea. A new Animal Crossing game where you blend the DNA of your villagers into freakish animal hybrids.

The Daily Grind: How much do graphics matter to you in an MMORPG?
🔗 https://massivelyop.com/2024/04/21/the-daily-grind-how-much-do-graphics-matter-to-you-in-an-mmorpg

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@massivelyop I actually prefer lower fidelity graphics in my MMOs. It helps with readability and orientation in the world. When graphics become too realistic and dense, your brain just sorts of tunes it out so it makes it difficult to get your bearings and for things to stand out to you.

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@mrgrgr @massivelyop 100%! When I talk about original everquest, there was nothing more awesome than being a gnome or halfling and partying up with an ogre in a big area. Everything felt enormous. On the flip side, being a giant in a small area was hilariously awkward.

Those little details actually make for a truly compelling experience. Of course a normal or large sized race is going to have to crouch in a gnome city. The doors aren't built for them!

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@mrgrgr @massivelyop absolutely beautiful! And it isnt recency bias at all! Elden Ring and the Souls games do a stellar job in design. They use sight lines, create compelling landmarks and offer a large breadth of scale that requires exploration and experimentation, much like in EQ.

It is a skill I wish we saw more of in the development of games! If you haven't heard of Monsters and Memories, I highly recommend checking it out. It is capturing the old EQ feel visually and gameplay wise

Me about to cry because someone DMed me to tell me that they appreciated my stream of Otherland and how they loved how I presented myself on stream. It's so nice to be appreciated for that stuff. You have no idea!

@Tijn You have no idea how much I appreciate that! I love games so much!!!!!! It is hard to know if you are doing a good job, because you can't trust the numbers. That stuff will only depress you. So good words are always nice!

I love that the Animal Crossing community has conspiracy theorists that are the equivalent of flat earthers, giants on earth and alien pyramid making technology tiktok. Folks are crazy! "When you put on the Egyptian Pharoah mask, a strange tone happens and you start tripping over yourself. WHAT COULD THIS MEAN?! Does this have some far reaching implications about the fabric of our reality?!?!?!" Dude... its just cursed with bad luck.
