Big day for Morlvision: sign-ups are now closed and the prompts have been distributed!

We got our three, which means the songwriting process is on like Donkey Kong!

Me just realizing, after posting a video of a gyroid from animal crossing gargling the fountain water from the Manneken Pis that I am very crude. Huh!

Bogusmeatfactory,

@Tijn come now! I feel like that is the very essence of my being. A culturally significant work of meticulous artistry and craft about peeing in a fountain.

@Tijn Its the Belgian Blarney stone! Everyone wants to see it and then they realize it's just a lot of piss.

I love that the Animal Crossing community has conspiracy theorists that are the equivalent of flat earthers, giants on earth and alien pyramid making technology tiktok. Folks are crazy! "When you put on the Egyptian Pharoah mask, a strange tone happens and you start tripping over yourself. WHAT COULD THIS MEAN?! Does this have some far reaching implications about the fabric of our reality?!?!?!" Dude... its just cursed with bad luck.

The Daily Grind: Are there MMOs that make you sad to play?

@massivelyop So many! I love to explore old MMOs that have a small dedicated fan base and there is a sense of melancholy when engaging in mechanics and ideas that can't live up to their full potential due to a lack of active playback. You see how this game was intended to play and there is not much you can do to instill that passion in others to capture even a glimmer of the games potential. That's sad.

@OutofPrintArchive it is still wild to me that the original Dynasty Warriors was a fighting game. Has there ever been a game series that had such a huge genre shift more than this one?

Ugh, my dad got a text from "the tax office", clicked the link in a panic and was immediately redirected to a payment page. He didn't enter anything but it still sucks.

This is my worst nightmare tbh: my parents getting scammed with stuff like this.

Bogusmeatfactory,

@Tijn I can't stress how many times I had to fix my wife's grandparents computer. They click on EVERYTHING. Heck, even when they get a phone call claiming they won $500,000 they start giving every piece of information they have. WE WATCHED THIS HAPPEN and had to wrench the phone out of their hands as they started giving their children's social security numbers. So bad.

i've been absorbing some secondhand games discourse. a new AAA game that costs $70 also has monetization. gamers are like, no, that's good actually, no one is making you buy that. and they're like, the people criticizing it will probably never play the game.

the thing is, i don't know how more clearly you could say all the lemmas that way without concluding "the developer is preying on me, a fan"? you don't think you deserve entire finished games for $70? listen to outsiders, this is buckwild

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@aetataureate I would agree it's ridiculous, but the stuff they are selling isn't in a limited quantity or even remotely hard to acquire in the game. It isn't gated in any way. Is it dumb they are selling it for real world money? Yes. Is it the end of the world? Nope.

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@aetataureate Oh sure, they definitely don't need to sell the DLC and shouldn't try to trick folks into buying it. I think everyone's reaction pro and anti are all blown out of proportion though. This isn't a new business practice from Capcom, or a lot of other AAA companies. It is stupid, needs to change and if it's a deal breaker for someone, that's totally okay. People just misdirect their outrage to fans, critics and people who don't make the final call on their DLC monetization.

Bogusmeatfactory,
@Bogusmeatfactory@dosgame.club avatar

@aetataureate Oh absolutely. I wasn't intending to insinuate you were.

I've been thinking about starting up some low-key streaming again. Not full-on "heeeeey guys, welcome to another episode of [blah-blah]; heyyyy, [whoever], thanks so much for the sub; come on, let's get that next milestone, woo-hoo" streaming. Just low-key evening streams where I chime in whenever there's something interesting happening but otherwise just a chill "background noise" kinda stream. Mostly because I want to record gameplay footage but I need some kind of excuse to get me going.

@massivelyop never once. In fact, it can be a major factor in me not playing. It's immersion breaking and stressful to feel like you have to keep up. It continues that feeling of social obligation that is actually a negative facet that the genre seems to fixate on.

@OutofPrintArchive Equinox was a game that kid-me wanted to play so bad! I had a Genesis so it was off the table, but I dreamed about it over and over as I would peruse the game magazines and see the ads.

Adult me wqs shocked when a good friend of mine said it was a sequel to an NES game, Solstice. I jumped st the chance to play it and Solstice easily became my all time favorite NES game.
