Happy and flabbergasted to report that Piss and Vinegar, the traditional game I made for the 7 Day Roguelike challenge, came in 7th out of 160. I've spent the last month mainly looking at everything I should've done differently, but apparently I got some things right after all.

I made a thing!
Piss and Vinegar is a traditional game made in 7 days for . It's main goal is to channel the chaotic, swingy combat of 's Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, so yes, you can kick enemies into the environment.

In case you're wondering why I haven't posted about my #Playdate games or #tic80 raycaster in a while: I've caught the #7drl bug again and I've been steadily working on my JavaScript Roguelike engine to use in the challenge. It'll probably be inferior to #rotjs in every way, with one big difference: I'll understand how it works and how to use it.

It's not a very visual thing, so no screenshots or updates so far.

Turn mayonnaise into miracle whip/dutch fries sauce:

  • 250g mayonnaise (1 heaping cup)
  • 1tsp white vinegar
  • 1tbsp confectioner's/powdered sugar
  • 3/4tsp dijon mustard
  • stir until mixed

hmmm not sure what to do with my isometric game project 🤔

it'd be much less complex to go ultima 7 style, a flat ground plane with items with height placed on top, but going ultima 8 style with actual differences in height in the terrain would make for a more (visually) interesting experience

@grumpygamer It's still very early progress, but I'm working alternately (to prevent project fatigue) on the roguelike Into the Pit and the small scale turn-based tactics game Hags of Goatskull Mountains, both for the #playdate console.

People who use #pico8, what built-in editor tools do you spend more time with than external tools to generate the same results?

I.e. if you make most of your art in an external editor like aseprite and import a PNG into pico 8, then you shouldn't pick "sprite editor". If you spend most of your time writing code inside pico 8 and not in say, notepad++, then you should select "code editor"

@eniko I don't like mode switching between programs, so I stick to the build-in tools. Exception for really complicated sprites; if today's part of the project is "create this one visual", I'll use a dedicated pixel art editor. Note: I mostly use tic-80 instead of Pico-8, but it's the same principle.
