Dozens of health organizations pledge ‘full support’ for federal ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars (www.cnn.com)

Eighty national public health groups, including the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Preventative Medicine, placed a full-page ad in Sunday’s edition of the Washington Post in support of a federal ban on menthol in cigarettes and all...

So the takeaway is that the health warnings are right?

Menthol and other flavoured cigarettes were banned in the EU years ago, and I don’t recall much of a fuss, not sure why this would be an issue in the US.

My experience was that long time smokers weren’t the ones smoking menthol and other weird stuff, it was mostly kids that didn’t like tobacco.

I didn’t know the first one until I got it as one of epic free games and it blew my mind. I’m keeping this onw on my radar.

This is hilarious stuff.

In a wonderful example of the importance of epeen, people in heated arguments over there have released classified documents just to prove they’re right.

You have a link here for leaked docs for a British Challenger II tank, but its not the only case.

What a sick burn, could have used it on Steven Hawking too.

Oh w…

Sorry what do you mean with your last sentence, “create a scenario in which the rule would be correct and give a hint”?

Never played pen and paper, this question fascinates me.

Oooh, really nice answer. Thank you!

I assume this is just going to continue escalating, and I’m really curious to see what the supreme court will respond to this when it inevitably reaches them. Will they allow their fellow judges to be bullied and harassed, discrediting themselves in the process, or finally squeeze this necrotic orange.

I assume you’re downvoted by someone who’s oblivious to the concept of sarcasm.

But I’ll add that even if they read this, we can always ban abortions so their whole life is fucked and they become good and obedient -slaves- workers

General strike (like the writers guild, except everyone) until the distribution of (a part of the) dividends to the workers is enshrined into law.

Sounds pretty doable to me.

Opinions are more human because they’re mostly posted by actual humans. Reddit and that clowfiesta previously known as twitter are clogged by astroturf.

If lemmy ever gets really big, no doubt we’ll see the same here unfortunately.

Criticism of gaming on Linux some years back was very well deserved.

Barely any native games, and subpar drivers compared to windows didnt make it a good platform at all. And of course for basically almost every game the only choice was WINE, and more often than not it was impossible to make it work, or had game breaking issues.

Then came the Proton days and things started to change, and with the steam deck, it’s really incredible how far we’ve come.

It’s not that America is hung up on guns per se. It’s that the corporations are allowed to dictate the conversation by pouring money into loudmouths and social media farms, and ultimately the laws themselves by -corrupting- lobbying lawmakers.

Funnily enough, foreign power also found that they can play that same game and funnel money to create chaos. Just look at the other thread that points to russian money funding the new speaker’s 2018 campaign…

I really like the idea of mandatory profit distribution to workers.

Imagine a world where this (or even half) gets divided equally by all apple workers. So much money going back into the economy, and a much smaller incentive to maximize profits…

Thank you dropping by HR today, Mr. Penguin!

As we said in the email, you can see here in the fine print that no leaving hours were specified, and we MOST CERTAINLY never implied that your working hours would be restricted by daylight.

As such, we expect you to only leave your cubicle when dawn breaks, which, very generously, should be more than sufficient to cover your day to day needs before resuming work.

This data is plain wrong, at least for some countries.

96% for Portugal would be amazing, but that seemed excessive so I looked it up, renewables accounted for 73% only.

I mean, it not bad, but we could be 99% there by now if the governments weren’t pandering to utilities and fossil companies so much.

Edit: sorry forgot to link the source for power data

Might I add, they keep adding so much useless junk to their browser hopping that any of it will stick, and it’s just bloat and more bloat.

Edge is going full IE6. The Greeks were right, time is a fucking circle, not a line.

I remember that nightmare vividly, my old company was using that piece of absolute garbage up until 2017 or so, until all the critical crap that had it as a hard requirement was replaced.

I want to give the benefit of the doubt here and assume he knows his audience, so playing it this way ensures it gets killed.

Kind of a does the end justify the means sort of situation…

Not being used to F at all, it seems to me that C has at least least some very notable landmarks - 0 frozen, 100 boiling. I have zero landmarks for F

True. This particular trial is a civil one however, so prison is not a possible outcome.

Totally missed your reply.

“Actual science”?! Show me one single scientific article that defends tobacco usage for depression or anxiety. I’ll be waiting.

As for prohibitionists, if you keep digging for long enough you’re bound to come up with a couple nutjobs that do support banning tobacco. The thing with these fringe extremists is that they’re irrelevant, up until the moment you go up to them and give them a loudspeaker just so that you can come back crying “see I told you they exist, they’re coming for me”.

As for cannabis, note that I brought it up to point out that the “zeitgeist” is NOT prohibition, in fact it’s the opposite. The fact that it’s still illegal in some places speaks more to how out of tune some politicians and even the courts are with the rest of society.

I’ll help you get there. Do you have an army of 2 million men, and spend 300 billion dollars a year on weapons?

Because the PRC does, and they do claim ROC as theirs.
