Terminals are NOT computers. At least dumb terminals are not. Smart terminals do have logic circuit, but dumb terminals work mostly like televisions, except they have protocols (like when you send a SIGINT signal with CTRL+C, and you are a 80s academic working on his terminal at UC Berkeley, then your UNIX implementation —...
Even if it is a terminal, its connected to a computer. Arguing otherwise is a bit pedantic, its not like he is physically on the computer/terminal either.
Something tells me Fish is not a capable login shell? It was in /etc/shells, but that does not mean it’s a login shell right? Would any shell with job control be a login shell? I’m really scared to logout! Any help is appreciated....
I’m running an nvidia card on X11 Plasma 6, with a 4K monitor alongside a QHD monitor. Both monitors are the same physical size, despite being different resolutions, so in the nvidia settings app, I’ve got the second X screen setup to generate 4K but downscale it to QHD in the output. It makes the second screen slightly...
Might be worth reporting that as a bug? Seems wrong that kscreen can parse the X config file, and silently throw out lines it doesn’t understand. Should at least pop up an error or “do you want to reset this” dialog box if possible. Good outcome though.
That wont necessarily save it, my impression was that google was going to attempt to heuristically detect other yt interfaces and mess with them. I.e: “You keep downloading video data, but havent hit our ad endpoint at all, gtfo”
Revanced would hit the same heuristic i described. We will have to see how it all shakes out, although my bet is on some temporary interuptions, followed by the apps working around them.
I think, and i’m open to alternative theories, is that using RAM instead of disk is safer when the tmp directory fills up.
If you have /tmp being a regular directory on your root drive, if you fill your disk witg tmp files, other processes wont be able to save files to disk, resulting in lost data.
If you have it in a ram disk, when the tmpfs fills up too much, the oom killer can get more space (unsure if oomkiller can wipe tmpfs, but that probably would be ideal?).
Neither are good, and both can result in data loss, but tmpfs may be safer?
Are you thinking rowhammer? My understanding is limited, but doesnt rowhammer require being able to write to memory at a consistent address, co-located with the data being attacked? Im not sure thats doable with tmpfs, but probably worth an investigation by someone more knowledgable than me :)
You may have better luck taking the non-foss solution and hacking it. Principles are great, but sometimes the thing your after is just not being served by the foss community. Otherwise, you may just have to start the project yourself.
The major one that concerns me is who is behind them. Even if we trust that their encryption is not backdoored, there is a lot of information that can be gathered just from the frequency of messages and who they are between.
If it came out that a three letter agency was running one of these networks, it would not suprise me at all.

Thats bizarre, i was in Vietnam a few years ago, and it was packed full of tourists. I would have thought that given covid is basically over for most people, that it would have bounced back.
Australian households could save $9.3 billion on energy bills each year by investing in the untapped solar potential of residential rooftops across the nation, a new report has found....
I hate to be the one to soften your nipples, but the power companies are definitely laughing all the way to the bank. You pay to put up solar panels, your excess electricity gets sold to them at 5.6c per kw, and they sell that to your neighbour for 30+c.
We have a lot of solar in Australia, but we are never getting 100% coverage. And because you cant get solar at night, you still need to pay the power company the daily fee and whatever power you use over night.
Yup, batteries help. But as someone with a battery, you still cant 100% get away from the grid, so your still stuck paying the daily charge. So my power company gets to bill me 80c a day to do nothing, because if there are a couple of rainy days in a row, my battery will deplete and I need the grid.
I have spent 20k on solar and batteries, and the power company gets paid regardless.
I have an m1 16gb, and i can easily hit the ram limit. Few android emulators and docker containers and im there. It may be an Air, but the CPU is perfectly capable of all of that and more, but the RAM is definitely holding it back.
Cant upgrade it without buying a whole new laptop, so Im stuck with it.
