Delphia,

Dont be fishist man! How dare you assume his species. If he identifies as a salmon its fine, so long as he doesnt swim up my stream to spawn I’m fine with it.

Report: School Shootings Either Way Down Or Too Depressing For Media To Cover (www.theonion.com)

Shedding light on the possible reasons for a dip in such news coverage, a report released Friday found that school shootings were either way down or too depressing for the media to cover. “Really, there are two possibilities here: It could be that there’s been some remarkable progress on getting guns out of the hands of...

Delphia,

Option C: that frequent we’re numb and it doesnt raise the viewing numbers.

Lemmy: Man fuck housing developers!

Also Lemmy: Man I cant find a house!

Edit: Yes affordability is the problem, but if demand keeps outrunning supply the situation will NEVER improve. The only way landlords will start to bring their prices down is when the tenant is the one with options.

Delphia,

If we dont build more demand will just keep outstripping supply more and more.

Delphia,

So they are building these for the fun of it?

The more houses built the better supply gets, the better supply gets the more prices will drop. Every one of these thats built and someone in the inner city scrapes together the cash to buy in suburbia frees up an apartment.

Delphia,

The thing is Lemmy is a pretty terrible cross section of society. Theres plenty of people in inner city apartments with solid careers who are fed the fuck up with living in an overpriced shoebox when they could buy a house in the suburbs, but those are overpriced too.

The more affordable all types of housing get the more everyone benefits, more supply is the only way to counter more demand.

Delphia,

Thats a seperate part of the same problem. They already have private buyers beat on buying power, less supply doesnt hurt them at all.

Delphia,

You can do both you know, its not an either or situation.

Delphia,

You want carnage? Can we please feed it the entire history of 4chan?

Delphia,

Googles “Suicide help line”

Google: “Do it Fa**ot”

Delphia,

I think you’re absolutely right. Personally I see the next big switch will be to handhelds. The ability to just pick my switch up and take it wherever I’m going is the primary reason I own it. They will do the premium one with the screen and controls and the “lite” edition will need a tv.

I wouldnt be surprised if MS and Sony eventually step out of the hardware game either entirely or mostly and simply licence out a “Playstation phase # compatable” certification to others (that you need a PSN subscription to use) so you know that that Steam Deck/MSI whatever/Asus handheld will play anything from the X generation of playstation titles or older available.

Delphia,

Only 1?

I used to race alot, by my count Ive bent 6 cars into a nonfunctional condition.

Delphia, (edited )

During covid I used to play the horses with the father in law, I got a tip and put $100 on it, it won and I got $1500. When I tried to take my money out of my betting app into Paypal they froze my account, despite me putting $50 a week through them into the betting app apparently me receiving money back was cause to investigate me for fraud. It was literally impossible to find an Australian phone number to call someone and their helpdesk was quite clearly a chatbot. I got my money 3 months later.

And that was the last time I ever used Paypal to recieve money.

Delphia,

I will donate to a gofundme for the next person who has to serve him documents to hire a mariachi band.

Delphia,

Seriously, half of Lemmy needs to learn what a fucking meme is.

Honestly its been 12 months and I’m thinking of installing the Reddit app because sometimes I just want to look at dumb funny shit because the world is depressing. I open lemmy and the memes community is full of political cartoons about Gaza and all the shit I’m trying to take a break from for 10 minutes.

Delphia,

Like… the Memes community should be for memes?

They do the odd “helmet blitz” in my city. Every few months the cops walk around the beach and foreshore just write tickets to everyone not wearing a helmet. In general most people wear their helmets all the time because who knows when the next one will be.

A few weeks of fines or confiscations for people riding on the footpath like dickheads would probably knock the worst of it on the head.

Delphia,

In a country with socialised medicine and social security we tend to be a bit more accepting of rules for public safety. If only to stop deadshits from clogging up the hospitals with avoidable brain injuries that will see them on disability payments for the rest of their lives.

Delphia,

Now someone much smarter than I can do the math, but over a long enough distance with a shallow enough incline on a ramp I dont see why it couldnt be done.

The math might mean the scale of the ramp makes the idea completely unrealistic to build. But I dont see why it wouldnt work.

Delphia,

What does that even mean? Yes, this is a question of physics.

Delphia,

Re-read the comment. “Physics has entered the chat” Its neither a yes or a no that its possible.

Im sure you could accellerate a person gradually enough over a long enough distance in a sufficient vehicle to launch them into space. Wether its practical or if we have the tech yet isnt “physics”…

Delphia,

Yeah, thats the average. Which includes stuff in locations that were never affordable for regular folks and never were intended to be. I googled “manhattan apartments” and found one that was a 5 bedroom for $90,000 a month. Marble bathrooms, terrific views… But when your talking about housing affordability, that apartment was never intended to house regular working people.

Which makes the average skyrocket, which makes the landlords of very average properties think that they can just turn up the noise.

I'm so sick of every single medical-related question people have online constantly getting spammed with 'talk to your doctor!!!!'

The way people online constantly say ‘talk to your doctor’ like it’s a panacea is a lot like how medieval peasants weren’t able to read scripture and they just had to trust their clergy’s interpretations...

Delphia,

I replied this to someone else but…

I was having issues with positional hypertension, I posted about it in a bodybuilding forum. Someone said “I bet your caffeine intake is too high. I had the same issue after my morning coffees and whenever I had preworkout. Dial back the caf and see what happens” That advice was safe, free and easy to test. It worked too. The thread has a bunch of people saying “Go see a doctor” and a bunch of people recommending supplements to help. I looked at all the advice rationally and thought about it. Id never had issues with caffeine before, but Id also never been working out as hard as I was and in a caloric deficit at the same time.

Qualified experts of Lemmy, do people believe you when you answer questions in your field?

The internet has made a lot of people armchair experts happy to offer their perspective with a degree of certainty, without doing the work to identify gaps in their knowledge. Often the mark of genuine expertise is knowing the limitations of your knowledge....

Delphia,

Im no expert but after 15 years in mail and parcel logistics I know shit. Ive been told Im “too close to the issue” to be objective. I even posted links to business services for a major international carrier to back up what I said and apparently any evidence I provide is “Biased”

So the only people you can turn to for factual answers are people with no fucking idea apparently.
