I’m looking to change my reading and buying habits away from Amazon and need an alternate source for my ebooks. Where can I buy ebooks that won’t expire or have their licence revoked and will allow me to download a copy of that ebook I can store on my own system regardless of the websites status?
My PC is getting on a little, it’s running on an i7-4790k, 16gb ddr4, and a GTX 970. right now, it’s struggling some in most games even though I don’t play any triple A titles. What would be a sensible upgrade that wouldn’t get totally bottlenecked by the CPU?...
Not that I’m worried at all, I understand you’ll never get anything perfectly balanced. I’m more concerned by trying to closely match price and performance. I could buy a top of the range graphics card for £800 but it won’t even sweat at the CPU desperately trying to keep up. I’d rather buy a cheaper card that’s going to let me stretch my CPU without breaking the bank
I know I can get a better card that will let me better utilise my CPU and that my card is what’s limiting me right now so as long as I can bridge that gap as best I can I’d be very happy
They are fun to mess around with! Unfortunately I haven’t had many hits where I am but I’m currently planning on building a small grid of a few solar powered cells and putting them up as weather/air quality monitors around my area. They’re very versatile and I think once more people get into it it’ll become more like amateur radio except for nerds that like sensors and texting lol
Not to mention they require high end hardware to run due to lack of optimisation. Many people can’t afford top end shit and with emulators becoming lighter and easier to run, retro games just become super accessible.
Even Wii emulators such as dolphin can run decently well on a bog standard phone and with the state the mobile game market is in, Wii games are just universally a better option.
Small town for sure. I love the outdoors, I love the quiet life, I love the community cohesion, I love pretty little houses and cottages and I love animals. I adore hills and crags and mountains and valleys.
The city itself isn’t really my scene. I don’t like cars, I don’t like shopping centres, I don’t like big flashing lights, and loud noises, and I don’t like sirens or clubs. I especially don’t like loud cars and pollution.
I live in a city now and I just miss the colour green and ponds and lakes and people that smile and say hello. I realise the country isnt perfect and there’s still things I’d miss about the city but by far I’d rather live out there than the middle of a city.

Ive had a couple pairs of walking boots in the past and none of them have survived more than 6-8 3 day hikes and I’m sick of replacing them. What are some points to look for in good walking boots, where should I look to buy them from in the UK, how much should I look to be spending as a rough guide?...
I’m not a true mechanical keyboard enthusiast. I mean I like a good keyboard for typing code, so I rolled with model-Ms in the 80s and 90s, then some expensive Cherry keyboard I only recently retired because it was utterly spent (and it was PS/2), and now I happily use a Wooting Two HE....
I’m one of those weirdos who actually really likes using a smaller keyboard so I’ll give you a few reasons I like smaller keyboard and a few why I don’t like larger ones.
First of all, desk space. I have a very small desk so not having the numpad makes for a lot more space for my mouse.
I also find when gaming that my arms fall at a weird and uncomfortable angle when I have the keyboard and mouse at a comfortable distance apart.
I don’t tend to use the numpad, or 9 key cluster above the arrow keys very often so the ones I do use (delete, Pg up and Pg down) are just mapped to a new layer. My board is ortholinear so I’ve also got the numpad mapped to a layer if I ever want to use it.
The function row is also re-mapped over the number row with the - and + acting as 11 and 12 because I very rarely need to use a function key and a number key at the same time or in quick succession so theres no need for the seperate keys.
I don’t program much but when I do, I’ve got all the relevant symbols labelled with their layers on the front of the cap so they’re not hard to find when I need them.
I’m also very much not a tidy desk person and I do a lot of my hobby work at my desk so having a nice small keyboard I can cram wherever I can when I need it and just move out of the way when I don’t means I’m not always shuffling stuff around my desk to make space for this huge keyboard.
Overall however, I just really like the look of a nice, small, compact keyboard with everything I need just there. It’s visually nice to have a uniform block of keys with no gaps, no larger or differently shaped keys, and that’s just not something a larger keyboard offers me.
I can absolutely see how this sort of thing doesn’t work for most people because there is an element of having to re-learn muscle memory and such, but for most people that have tried it, they seem to find that when it works, it works very well!
I have noticed that some CAPTCHA pages, like Cloudflare’s, simply ask you to check a box to proceed. There is no clicking on traffic lights or entering characters. How does clicking on a check box tell them I am not a robot?
Slight tangent, but if you want to pass the “click on all the images with traffic lights” first time, select one that’s obviously wrong then go back and “change your mind” computers don’t do that and 9/10 times it’ll pass you first time!
Just because an argument contains a logical fallacy doesn’t mean the argument is necessarily incorrect.
An example:
Person A: This food is better for you because it’s all natural
Person B: appeal to nature, therefore you’re wrong and it’s not better for you
The food may well be much better for you but person B has assumed that the opposite is true because person A has used a logical fallacy and has themselves fallen into a logical fallacy.
