Ech,

Would life really be so bad if we were born to huddle under the blankets and stay warm?

Ech,

I can't remember why I switched to RIF exactly, but it was my go-to Reddit mobile experience for many years. I never bothered to look at anything else as it perfectly fit what I was looking for in a Reddit app.

Thanks for putting out such a great app, and best of luck in the future!

Tried to look at an Amber Alert today (lemmy.world)

I have a long commute in and out of a large city. Since I spend so much time on the road, I always try to get the details of Amber Alert notifications to be on the lookout for vehicles used in abductions. I guess I can't do that anymore since Twitter requires an account to see Amber Alerts. Hopefully my state finds another...

Ech,

I've been constantly amazed at how normalized it's gotten for not only other companies, but for governments, to rely so much on sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc, for essential information like Amber Alerts. Shit like this hopefully makes people more aware of how treacherous it is to rely on corporate services for public services. Maybe the gov will finally institute their own web services for public information (unlikely) or at least enact boundaries on services that have been widely adopted (slight more likely).

Ech,

You're right! It would be awful if it was implemented in literally the worst way possible 🙄

C'mon dude. I'm obviously not advocating for 1984 style government announcements forcefed into people's eyeballs. Setting up a government only twitter-esque platform wouldn't be that terrible. Hell, with something like Mastadon or Lemmy, it could integrate easily into what people are already using.

Ech,

Would be nice if wsj wasn't paywalling the article -_-

Ech,

Not your fault. Just wsj being dumb.

Ech,

You are quoting two different "America"'s there, for one. SCOTUS isn't even an elected body, so I'd hardly consider them "America" outside of their power to dictate our state of affairs.

Ech,

What I really want is a "Lemmy Enhancement Suite" with all (or most) of the additional options that RES provided.

In particular I'm missing keyboard navigation, custom post filters (or just hiding posts in general), and collapsing in-line images. Those would be really nice to have here.

Ech, (edited )

It's almost like governments and people prefer a leader that doesn't treat international relations like they just finished the first chapter in Power Plays - How to be the shittiest person in the boardroom (and suck up to those shittier than you)

Is there an option to select mutliple (or all) post languages in the user settings?

Hey, I follow some communities on Lemmy that use different languages. In the settings, however, you can only specify one setting at a time and if I select "undetermined", I only see posts that have no language flair at all. I would expect that when you select "undetermined", the language filters are ignored and posts from all...

Ech,

When you're selecting languages, try holding ctrl when clicking the ones you want. It should allow you to select more than one.

Ech,

"Attempted murder" seems appropriate

Ech,

The fbi aren't personally stopping every case of swatting. Their instituting federal systems to help local departments. This is a nationwide problem. It's gonna need nationwide support.

Ech,

How is that different from how subscriptions work now, other than adding one more thing to click to get to your "list" to add a subscription?

Ech,

Just subscribe to all of them if you're that worried about missing something. It's really not that complicated.

Also, stop worrying about reenacting your Reddit experience. Lemmy is not Reddit. Figure out what you like about Lemmy and focus on enhancing that instead of stressing about forcing Lemmy into your preconceived notion of what it should be.

Ech,

Better than being flooded with bots.

Ech,

Oooh, that sounds fun. Is there a live chat planned, or just a comment thread?

Ech,

I can't say what would be best, but I've joined live chats for the Dimension 20 watch-along's on Discord and that seemed to work well. They do have an excellent team of moderators, though. That's obviously important. Personally I don't have any experience with that, so I'm not really sure what to suggest.

Ech,

Hey look! It really is reddit. We have horny dumbasses making insulting comments here too!

Will there really be a big influx of users on the 30th?

I’ve seen many comments and posts regarding the API fiasco on Reddit, with the claim that there will be a huge influx of users when that happens. I’m all for it, but I find it hard to believe that the average or even above average user will make the effort to switch.

Ech,

I don’t find the “need” / fomo to visit

I wouldn't say that's a bad thing. Reddit is purposefully designed to hold your attention, just like every other corporate social media platform. They have a monetary incentive to do so. Lemmy doesn't, and hopefully never will.

Ech,

I don't see that as a problem, tbh. Bigger numbers generally just mean more problems, in my experience. From poor users contributing nothing or bad content, to site devs seeing dollar signs and ruining the platform.

And if people get discouraged enough by a fairly simple system like Lemmy to give up or leave, they obviously weren't interested in this and really just wanted something handed to them instead of being part of something.

Ech,

People get worked up about "karma whores", but won't contribute themselves. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just people being dumb.

Ech,

Voat got so bad they bullied The_Donald users off the site for not being shitty enough. I almost respect them for that, but yeah, still super shitty.

Ech,

It's an old game, but I believe in you. You'll beat it some day! (/s)
