@Evoterra I had been wondering what happened to you because I wasn't seeing your posts anymore.
It looks like when you switched to Clackey, it ported all the follow data (I'm stil following you), but it didn't update lists. Since I usually see your posts on a list, you disappeared.
Say a competent & committed person launched a premium instance. #Calckey, let’s say, but it could be any #Fediverse flavor.
By premium I mean that it would require all accounts to pay $15/month.
Further assume that 100 people would sign up for that. (For the record; I would totally sign up for that.)
That’s $1500/month. Not a living wage, but possibly enough to make it worth their while to do all the backend shit people like me cannot do, which likely is not anywhere near a full-time job.
I know the devil is in the details, but on broad strokes… why wouldn’t this work?
@Evoterra I want this to work. But I'm struggling to think of a compelling offering to differentiate my premium instance from the free ones. Better moderation, maybe, but that's labor intensive and soul-crushing. What else?
Wanna not look like a goober because you claimed "first ever" and someone comes along and shows you evidence that you were not the first ever? Here's a surefire trick:
SiriusXM is replicating Spotify’s move from [checks notes] 2018 and will be mixing podcasts in with whatever other content SiriusXM has in their app. Cool.
Why is Stitcher being discontinued and where can I listen to podcasts moving forward?
Last Updated: 1h
SiriusXM, the owner of Stitcher, is focused on incorporating podcasts into its flagship SiriusXM subscription business. Subscribers can listen to podcasts within the SiriusXM app and will see an all-new listening experience later this year.
All podcasts on Stitcher can also be found anywhere else podcasts are distributed.
I’ve been using #Kimis for a while, but it’s an imperfect tool for Calckey. Too many things I can do, like auto-fill user names, handle alt text, show alt text… you get the idea.
And if a fantastic Masto apps now support #Calckey and I missed the memo, let me know!
@rscottjones A sense of exploration, mostly. But longer posts, cool “antennas” for following topics, and the fact that most others on the #Fediverse never knew I switched flavors!
Wow. Lots of reports here on the Fediverse about #Russia and a possible coup. Good news sources. Not linking to any as it’s early. Wow. Hold on to your butts.
Related: It strikes me that the #Fedvierse makes it much more straightforward to do something like this, using https://podcastindex.org as the "main" source of publicly available content, adding in "exclusive" content (if you want), and then customizing the listener experience to cater to whatever niche your servicing.
@Evoterra@podnews Still waiting for people to wake up to using the <podcast:socialInteract> tag to attach #fediverse comments to their podcast episodes. It already works perfectly.
@Evoterra@podnews I have to admit, I'm resistant to the idea as a listener. I resent the continued stratification of content platforms / media players, and don't need algorithmic or crowdsourced help finding new content to listen to.
But I fully expect I'm an atypical use case. If other people like it, cool I guess.
