27, he/him. interested in all things tech, music production, and gaming. i write songs your girlfriend would probably listen to.

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

FVVS,

I can second this. I had a really nice time playing Stray.

FVVS,

I have a pair of Senheiser HD6xx from Drop.com. It’s basically a pair of HD600s with slightly cheaper plastic and bare bones packaging. They have the exact same drivers as the 600s. These cans have been famous for decades with good reason, as they give the perfect balance of low, mid, and high end.

They’re a bit pricey at around $230, and you’ll also need a great amplifier to power it. You can always go with a decent $99 desktop amp or you can shell out $300 on a high quality DAC+AMP. I have the Audient ID14, and everything sounds FANTASTIC. I can turn up the music super loud and still have head room.

TLDR; Drop.com Senheiser HD6xx with an Audient i14 to power them. Overkill for casual listening, perfect value for audiophiles.

In my opinion, having multiple accounts in different apps and instances is better than trying to combine them into the smallest amount of accounts

Having accounts in different Mastodon instances, for example, allows you to see more of Mastodon, because not all servers federate with the other servers, and some servers will recommend you different accounts, or will only partially show you posts from accounts on other servers. It also allows you to test out each one of those...

FVVS,

I mostly agree with this. Here’s how I use the Fediverse:

I have an account on every instance that I want to browse, while keeping my own personal instance up in the first tab. I browse multiple instances, and when it comes time to comment, I just add the post to my own instance and comment away.

I use all the other accounts as lurker accounts. That way, my identity on Lemmy is consistent but I still get to browse anything I want without worrying about everything federating properly.

FVVS,

Welcome and enjoy your stay! Feel free to DM for any questions about Lemmy or Federation in general!

FVVS,

Just use a cloudflare tunnel. It’s free and can be used on pretty much any network that sends and receives data.

FVVS,

The release of the iPhone and iPod touch was such a special time for me. The jailbreaking scene was just getting started and it started my life long fascination with tinkering with technology.

FVVS,

Refreshing sources will always be permanently engrained in my vision as if I was looking directly into the sun.

FVVS,

Omg I absolutey hate this. Thank you so much.

FVVS,

As a UI/UX designer myself (hobbyist, to be clear), I really like it.

There seems to be this notion in the homebrew/FOSS/Linux community that “wasted space” is always non-preferable. I can see this being true for some people, but I feel like a lot of people and band wagoning this opinion.

It’s pretty universally known and accepted in the design community that padding is extremely important when it comes to helping your brain read and separate content. And to be fair, most non-tech people prefer space and padding in their applications to make things easier to understand.

I can be entirely off base here, but TLDR: I like padding and it’s literally beneficial to helping your brain understand the layout of what you’re looking at better.

FVVS,

Yeah, I’m not going to say Google doesn’t waste space. There’s definitely a difference between stylistic padding, and literally not using a section of the screen for no reason.

What are some good uses we can do/make with ai and such?

sense ai is still trending, what acatly can we do with them that might be useful. ive been using chatgpt for code but the best thing ive got so far is something like pong, i would code myself but i find it way too hard for my brain and i struggle with almost everything. i feel like i could do more with ai but im not sure what....

FVVS,

I just posted about this today in another thread. The ability for AI to be able to describe photos for people who are visually impaired is a total game changer. Most visually impaired people rely on people posting AltText or photo descriptions to become involved, but as most of us already know, most people don’t think twice about it, including myself. I’m definitely trying to be better.

Shuntaro Furukawa: Switch Successor Will Utilise The 'Nintendo Account' System (www.nintendolife.com)

According to comments made by Furukawa during Nintendo's recent shareholder Q&A, the plan is to utilise the existing Nintendo Account system to make the jump to the next generation as smooth as possible for customers. Here's part of what Nintendo's president had to say, courtesy of a translation by Twitter user Genki:...

FVVS,

All nintendo has to do is make a higher resolution OLED display, a bigger battery, and a modern day chip. Heck, they can even go Snapdragon.

FVVS,

Valve is truly one of the last respected game companies. Sure, they make a lot of money and take a 30% cut from developers on Steam, but because of how satisfied their users are, they keep coming back and keep buying more games, which is a win in the long term. Too many companies think short-term or quarterly while Valve seems to look at the big picture. I give a lot of credit to Gabe for not truly selling out at any point. And if it hasn’t happened by this point, I don’t see it happening in the future. It would have happened by now if so.

FVVS,

I think you’re overthinking this. Twitter used to be a place where I could keep up with my friends. Now, it’s a place filled with many forms of hate. Because of this, I no longer wish to use it, so I left.

I personally have no care in the world for what happens with Twitter. Why should I? It becomes overrun with bigots? So what?

Remaining on a platform filled with hate is an indicator that you’re ok with that. I am not, so I left. end of story.

Does anybody feel like the quality of reddit has already dropped massively?

I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.

FVVS,

I suggest we create a list of who is bringing what to the party, that way we’ll know who’s bringing what. I’ll start

I will bring the f*ck /u/spez shot glasses!

FVVS,

I’m kinda in the same boat. Super into tech and computers and know my way around Windows, Mac, and a fair understanding of Debian based Linux… But self hosting still holds many questions to me.

Today, i just discovered that you can use CloudFlare VPN tunneling to basically “convert” a local ISP provided IP directly to a public IP without the need for a dedicated IP. I’m still at work but I’ll probably start tinkering with it once I get home. Would love to host Mastodon and Lemmy at home instead of paying a monthly fee just for some light to moderate social media use.

I also want to run some home automation stuff as well as a few static html websites. I know currently what is possible and the basic understanding of how it works, I just need more time to practice!

Feel free to hit me up in DMs if you have any questions or want to exchange notes. Seems like we’re both in a similar place rn.

FVVS,

Love this channel, love that you guys over here love it as well. Thanks for being cool, beehaw.

FVVS,

I personally do not care what people think or tell me about handwriting. I do not enjoy writing things out by hand, I much prefer typing. So that is what I do. Simple as that.

FVVS,

It’s a real shame that a phone that looks that good can turn out so bad. Battery life is the killer here, hopefully Google will be able to improve by Gen2, otherwise I feel like Samsung will remain kings of the folding phone space.

What are things you would rather host on a VPS as opposed to a local machine?

Hey, I was thinking about getting a VPS and hosting my own single user Lemmy instance. I am trying to think of other things to host. I already have some old hardware running unRAID with Plex, the *arrs, Kavita and home assistant. This is pushing my hardware to the limit but I still want to mess around with some self hosted...

FVVS,

I would say this: If it’s just you accessing your server and nobody else, self-hosting is fine.

When it comes to giving other people access to your server, no matter how close of friends you may be, I would recommend renting a cheap VPS online. The security benefits are just that much better.

FVVS,

If you watch the video, you would understand that this individual is deleting specific comments, then saw the exact same comments that he deleted return some time later.

FVVS,

Would love to see the FOSS community take down reddit, especially if there’s legitimate merit to it.

Dell Chromebook Pulls a Jesus (Resurrects)

I bought a refurbished Dell chromebook, and used it for several months, taking it apart a few times. One day, I took it apart, and pulled the motherboard out, because I was curious if I could modify it, maybe change the ram, even though it's not meant to be changed. When I put it all back together, it wouldn't boot, not by...

FVVS,

It’s a ghost. Always sleep with a vacuum.
