Reported someone for showing up to work drunk. He was fired shortly after. It was justified because in his job, he put others at risk of harm in addition to himself, but it still feels bad.
He was an old guy without a lot of employment options, so getting fired likely had a very negative impact on his quality of life. I know he did it to himself, but it’s the only time where a decision I made was a clear link in the chain of someone else’s life getting significantly worse. It was necessary, but still sucked.
When people post YouTube links… is there a cool open source way to watch it on mobile without going through youtube? Because when I click on a YouTube link and I’m on my phone and it immediately gives me an ad it’s pissing me off like in a huge way… is there a way to bypass ads without an ad blocker on my phone
Go down to the configure manually option and follow the instructions for iPhone.
I think next guard is also supposed to be decent, but they won’t let you use it without an account.
The nice thing about the dns approach is it works for more than just your web browser. There’s a bunch of Android games that are essentially unplayable without an adblocking dns.
As a disclaimer, a bunch of sites are ramping up requiring enabling ads or they won’t let you load the content. I’m ok with just hitting back and not viewing those sites, but my MIL just asked for help removing the ad guard dns because her news sites wouldn’t let her in.
Yeah, the mistake here is in putting the beef and gravy on top resulting in mush. Putting the potatoes on top and allowing them to crisp would really change the flavor and texture.
Since they’re following a specific cohort, I wonder if that isn’t just the baseline percentage of recently homeless people who can secure housing on their own in 6 months. It would help if they had a control group.
It looks like the $50/month group is considered the control group. If you ignore the income from the program entirely, it doesn’t seem unexpected that 20% of people could secure housing over a 6 month period. So it’s not that $50/month tripled the housing rate, it’s that 6 months is enough time for 20% of people to increase their income enough to lease an apartment.
If you consider the inverse of that. Even after 6 months, 70% of participants that did not receive substantial assistance were unable to get their own housing. Does that result still surprise you when framed that way?
Did you miss the Sci fi shows that taught us that we have to let the tech tycoons enjoy new technology exclusively for a good decade or so before it can be sold to the masses? So your smart contacts are probably in Tim Cook or Satya Nadella’s secret lab in a mountain valley.
Two days ago I saw that one of my favourite shirts has mold stains. So far I’ve soaked it in 1:1 water and vinegar, dilute colorsafe bleach, and detergent separately for a few hours each. That might’ve killed the mold but the stains aren’t coming off. I rubbed powdered detergent on the shirt and left it in the sun for a...
Color-safe bleach seems to be Hydrogen Peroxide based, so you were probably safe.
Traditional Sodium Hypoclorite bleach should never be mixed with vinegar. That can release chlorine gas which is very bad for you even at low concentrations.
In general, use one cleaning agent at a time with thorough rinses in between. It can be hard to predict how cleaning agents will react. You’re likely to reduce the effectiveness of them by mixing, and there’s a chance of making dangerous byproducts.
Trying to eat healthier, (edit for me this means lower sugar, less carbs, more protein) and it seems like everything that is sweet, sweet-ish, or a snack but also sold as healthy has peanuts or is peanuts. Yeah, they grow kind of like a potato as nodules on the roots of an annual plant that’s easy to grow as a field crop. As opposed to tree nuts that grow on trees that take a long time to produce, need regular maintenance, need lots of irrigation to produce well, and are more difficult to mechanically harvest.
The two groups are drastically different in what it takes to grow and process them.
It does seem like something that could be worth just trying. I can’t imagine the seeds/nuts would cost much. So if you already have grow bags there’s not much to lose by experimenting with it.
Do you have a balcony that gets some direct light? I tried balcony growing in a northwest facing apartment balcony. It was enough to keep some things alive, but not enough light to actually get much flowers or fruits. I definitely appreciate your frustration.
That was one of our main motivations to buy a house tbh. So many plants never truly thrive in containers, and spending hundreds on grow lights to grow $10 worth of food is hard to justify.
Rainfall is measured in inches. If you want to grow a specific crop, you can look up how many inches water that crop needs over a growing season. Rainfall naturally already includes an area factor in it, but if you’re spreading a volume of water over multiple fields, expressing that volume in acresinches or acresft is relatively reasonable.
It’s also a reasonably direct way to measure the amount of water stored in a reservoir. If you know the area of the reservoir in acres, then any height changes can just be multiplied by the surface area of that resevoir.
I’m all for metric in science and manufacturing, but this particular odd unit does seem to fit the application well.
