Explains…soooo much. Still an asshole, though.

Clarence Thomas’ Private Complaints About Money Sparked Fears He Would Resign (www.propublica.org)

After almost a decade on the court, Thomas had grown frustrated with his financial situation, according to friends. He had recently started raising his young grandnephew, and Thomas’ wife was soliciting advice on how to handle the new expenses. The month before, the justice had borrowed $267,000 from a friend to buy a high-end...

You know… if you can’t make do with nearly 200k+ for a salary…

Maybe you should learn to figure it out rather than solicit bribes from people like Harlan Crow.

Schumer stamps out final Tuberville military holds, ending months-long standoff (thehill.com)

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday evening sought and received unanimous consent to confirm the promotions of 11 four-star generals that had been held up for months by Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville ® to protest the Pentagon’s abortion policies....

nothing. He was trying to hold those positions for Trump. Kinda like McConnell did with SCOTUS nominations.

just making the point that, as a battle flag, flying it is literally identifying yourself as a member of armed services of an enemy of the US. That was always it’s purpose, and outside of reenactments… we should probably be inclined to treat them as such.

When the flag is carried into the capital building during election proceedings with the intent of of overturning an election, we should probably consider the hostilities actively renewed… (or, you know, just lock the fuckers up. that works.)

just as flying the Jack of the United States or the Ensign (which for the US is the US national flag,) identifies a ship as a ship of the US (USN, coast guard, Sealift command… NOAA).

FuglyDuck,
@FuglyDuck@lemmy.world avatar

Actually, the cross-form of the confederate flag is a battle flag. (the actual confederate flag was too similar to the US star’s and stripes flag for identifying forces.)

So flying it is technically identifying yourself as an enemy of the US.

knew a guy who crossed out those bits in the agreement. they HR peeps never noticed until he found a new place to work. (he now works for our company.) It amazes me; how many people fail to realize every contract is unique.

It still flies over the head of a lot of republicans.

They just don’t know that, it’s practically a direct translation of hitler’s rhetoric- and they’ve never believe it, even if you show them hitler’s massive speeches.

So that’s probably lessmore than one paycheck. (Edit: fixed a typo. I said that wrong)

yeah… I’m not going to blame nobody for not wanting to read that article…

Even our scientific method is a bit wanting in this area, since if we hear X, how can we prove X?

by looking at their lab notes and repeating their experiment and seeing if we can make the same observations. if they lied about their process (see the guy that claimed he made a room temp superconductor…) they get caught out.

I think you thoroughly misunderstand the process involved. yeah, there’s more emphasis on being first… but no… there’s definitely still verification. Oh. and. yes. we can image atoms.

HAHAHAH. fucking regressives.

I hope the deal passes, and then Johnson gets shit-canned by his own people.

Alina Habba hopes Kavanaugh rewards Trump for SCOTUS appointment, overturns Colorado decision (lawandcrime.com)

Donald Trump attorney Alina Habba caused an uproar with her appearance Thursday on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show in which she seemingly suggested that Justice Brett Kavanaugh owes it to the former president who appointed him to the Supreme Court to “step up” and overturn Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to boot Trump...

I wonder if she realizes… asking (or demanding) favors in return for prior favors is a great way to get justices to recuse themselves.

Well, it would be if SCROTUS had any integrity.

Maybe start with not directly funding them.

this thing, works, and it’s a toy that lets you play with the kitty.

When the cardboard tubes wear out, you can make yarn poms that work too… if you happen to know a knitter/crocheter they probably have an entire wall of yarn.

Anything similar, really… including any kind of rod and string and ball-ish thing… my time share cat

Also, if your cat likes cardboard scratchers, you can make strips from Amazon boxes, by getting a 2x4 cutting a corner off and using a screw to hold down a utility knife. Just run it down the edge to create strips.

All cats will be different, though, I had the advantage talking with the old man’s cat dad about it :)

If it’s a shelter cat, they might have an idea.

Iowa Republican caucus sets new record for state political ad buys: $120 million (www.cnbc.com)

The battle to win the Republican Iowa caucus is the most expensive on record, with over $120 million spent on ads by the campaigns and their affiliated political action committees in the Hawkeye State, according to data provided to CNBC by AdImpact....

Super pacs need to get the fuck out of politics.

It’s asinine that dark money gets to buy adds for their chosen candidates without saying who the dark money is coming from.

It’s also asinine that corporations literally get to bribe politicians, because they write a book, then the super pacs buy up all the books.

I know I have my beefs with Biden. I think he’s a terrible candidate. but the reality was Putin was going to renew the invasion in Ukraine.

Appeasement doesn’t work. It only validates the aggressor’s choice. Putin was always going to invade Ukraine, and failing a complete victory, was always going to nibble bits off and pretend for peace before trying again. this is was the path people took after the 2014 invasion in crimea. This is what he was going to do again.

This reads like it was written by Putin’s shit-tier propagandists.

More like… that same feeling when your flat tire takes air long enough to get you to service station.

yeah, it still sucks, but hey, at least you don’t have to call a tow. (Because, thanks Obama, my car doesn’t have a spare. the efficiency standards for cars were low enough that they decided to remove the spare to cut it’s weight out…)

Palestinians didn’t. Hamas did. There’s a distinction there.

And before you start both-sidesing saying that the IDF is attacking Palestinians… Israelis voted for this current government, more or less. I assume it was a nominally fair election.

The last election in Gaza was won with a minority vote for Hamas (44%? they were a plurality-vote, whoever got the most won). further, that was back in 2006. they haven’t had election since- and that was 17 years ago. This means that about half of the people alive in Gaza before Oct 7th were too young to actually vote in that election. And of the ones that were… most didn’t. source
