So, even though I'm still (just) , today I start on Insulin. It appears my body is still producing some Insulin but not enough, hence why medication just hasn't worked.

After so many months of extreme thirst, high blood sugars, constant lack of energy and insomnia, I have 3 words... Bring. It. On!

GeoffBySea,

And as I arrive early for appointment and park up, phone rings... Nurse is not available. They will call with another appointment when she's back. 😠

GeoffBySea,

@Jerry Yet, unfortunately, not surprising. Our health service are so very short of staff because they're not looked after by our government.

I'm gonna ask a question. It's just something I'm curious about and intrigued to see the reasons. Privacy is, after all, up to each individual...

If you don't have a photo of you on your profile... why?

Selfies, ads, stories over photos, more ads, non-chronological order, even more ads, Me Me Me desperate wannabes, algorithm nightmare.

@pixelfed Serious photographers, no ads, clean, chronological timeline, still no ads, photos of so many things, not attention seeking selfies... definitely no ads, no algorithms, YOU decide what YOU want to see.

ALT text info. Don't forget too... as this breaks them into single words for people using readers.

Take a look at this conversation thread... THIS is what true social media is all about πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘ŒπŸ» A great debate, no strong opinions forced on the other one. Perfect. Thanks @SomeGadgetGuy

Now that's really sensible.

Phanpy.social every so often shows a collection of in your timeline but in a superbly intuitive way.

Instead of having to scroll through these boosts vertically and miss out on other stuff, it appears as one post in the timeline which you then scroll through horizontally. Genius!

Just finished watching Samsung Unpacked.
"A new era for Mobile AI!"
Ugh.

This is going to be a minor iterative year for Galaxy Fans. The hardware is only getting small changes. The major claims about AI mostly come from Google Gemini (which Google PAINSTAKINGLY kept reiterating would be on "android" phones, not just Galaxy phones).

And we glossed over a lot of the things that might impact folks daily use, like Exynos chips vs Qualcomm chips.

When pocket computers are THIS expensive, I think we need to see more than a handful of translation features and photo editing tools.

We did get a sneak peek at this new Galaxy Donut CG render though. So that was cool.

GeoffBySea,

@SomeGadgetGuy Personally, I think the smartphone reached its peak a long time ago.

Apart from foldable and flip options, they've all been the same design for years now. Just better camera, processors and screens repeatedly.

I mean, what else can they do apart from go sci-fi and create semi-transparent ones πŸ˜„

GeoffBySea,

@SomeGadgetGuy Oh definitely. I mean, they are 3 or 4 different gadgets in one now and you're right, unless you're into tech, most hate anything different or new.

Cannot count the times I've seen people who get the top of the range flagships because they must be seen with them... they don't even know how to change default sounds or wallpapers.

At the moment, I switched from Pixel 7a to Samsung Galaxy A34 5G. I wanted a larger screen phone, 120Hz display and much better battery life. I got that in an "as new" 2nd hand phone for Β£200.

Sure, the camera won't match up to a flagship but it doesn't need to. 99% of my photos I'll never view on anything bigger than my TV, not a billboard in London πŸ˜„

GeoffBySea,

@SomeGadgetGuy Oh yes. For many years I HAD to have every new, top iPhone on launch day.

Then, as the value of Apple grew, innovation was dropping, it seemed, to me, it's nothing but greed with them now.

I mean, a $TRILLION company and they still only 5GB free on iCloud?

I've had Droid phones on and off over the years but now, with Android 14, it is such a superb and, importantly for me, customisable OS now.

Whether I pay Β£200 or Β£1200 for a phone, I should be able to completely adapt every aspect of it to suit ME, not be controlled by the company I bought it from!

As you say, marketing the big, bright and flashy phones works and the big corporate boys know this.

GeoffBySea,

@gerardoemanuel @SomeGadgetGuy Exactly. Unless you're doing heavy video editing or really intense gaming there's no need for a flagship phone. I suspect it's a really low percentage of people who use the flagships to their max

GeoffBySea,

@SomeGadgetGuy @gerardoemanuel Indeed. Been out the last few days with my Samsung Galaxy A34 5G and taken photos like this...

Uploaded and posted so many photos today. Feels good to see them all in one place, correct order, no adverts, no desperate attention grabbing selfies or algorithms forcing them on me.
